Upgrades

We are going to Vegas in August for our Anniversary. Getting lots of good info off this site! One question I have people have talked about asking about an ';upgrade'; what exactly does this mean?

On checking just asking if a better room is available? for free? Also see tipping mentioned as a way of getting an upgrade? Is this done routinely?

Upgrades

The answer to your last 4 questions are all ';yes.';

Upgrades usually refer to getting moved to a ';better'; room than the one you reserved. Usually for free.

You can either ask politely when you check in, or offer an ';advance tip'; (what some around here call a ';bribe';) by sandwiching a $20 or $50 between your ID and credit card at check in while you request the complementary room upgrade.

Opinions are widely divided as to whether the ';bribe'; gets you anything more than you would have gotten by just asking politely.....

You should in general reserve/pay for the minimum level of room that%26#39;ll be acceptable to you, rather than pinning your hopes on the upgrade. For example, if you%26#39;ve got your heart set on a lakeview room at Bellagio, reserve it. When you check in, you might get lucky and get upgraded to a higher floor, small suite, etc, but if you don%26#39;t, you%26#39;re not suffering in a room you%26#39;re unhappy with.

Thanks for the reply....will try asking nicely, can%26#39;t see trying the ';bribe';
