Okay ladies, this one is for you...

Hi Ladies,

So I am going to Vegas with my bf in August, crazy and hot month to go, but I%26#39;m SO excited!!

I have never been there before and one of the things I would like to do is to go to a salon and get all done up for a nice romantic evening with my guy :) So if you could recommend a salon that you have either been to or know of that is well known for styling hair etc that would be great :)

I%26#39;m not looking to spend anywhere near $1000 (I say this because I%26#39;m sure there are places in Vegas which may charge you this amount) so something in an average price range.

Many thanks ladies :)

Jenn

Okay ladies, this one is for you...

Tbonz-35 from Atlanta had a great experience at Kim Vo%26#39;s at Mirage in March. I remember because I made notes! James did her color/highlights and Lavetta did her cut. I believe she said that James trained with Jose Eber in LA. I don%26#39;t remember the exact price but she was pleased!

Okay ladies, this one is for you...

Most of the hotels have a salon in them and you can get your hair styled there.

Ok, how about a less expensive salon, off strip? I%26#39;m asking for a friend who is staying at the Summer Bay Resort on Koval in late May. Please help!

http://local.yahoo.com/NV/Las+Vegas/Health+Beauty/Hair/Hair+Salons

www.hottiehair.com sounds like a good one. They got some good reviews ;)

I love Canyon Ranch in the Palazzo. Krisztina did my hair and I wanted to take her back to NY with me! If you go on the Palazzo web site and click on the Canyon Ranch link (under amenities), they have their price list there.

Thanks for the advice :) Anyone else...bump :)

The Canyon Ranch at the V took very good care of me, it a nice salon and the people were very friendly!

Where are you staying?

We are staying at the Mirage.

mirage pool

Anyone hear of construction at mirage pool to be started. One of the websites said that part of pool is roped off. My first time there and would hate to swim in half of a pool. Thanks.

mirage pool

We were there over the weekend and apparently they will be working on the waterfall. It was sectioned off and you couldn%26#39;t swim in that portion of the pool. BUT, that is just one section, and there%26#39;s plenty of other swimmable areas.

One more ? please

I asked about hotels and two lovely ppl had really helped me out. She suggested that we should stay at the Mirage vs. MGM Grand, but when I read the reivews it really scared me.

I booked the room already(Mirage because I didn%26#39;t want to pass up the deal that Tia found for me...thank you Tia L...please don%26#39;t be angry that I%26#39;m asking this question) and my frd still have the MGM in her name. But we are unsure which one to stick with base on the reviews from here. Please help us.

We are single and ready to mingle 30%26#39;s gals, love clubing, shopping and some pool time. My main concern was an updated, clean room with a clean and updated bathroom(that%26#39;s why Tia suggested the Mirage.)

Do we ignore the reviews about the Mirage or stick with the MGM. The rooms look nice on the site and read that the location(Mirage) is better than the MGM.

TIA,

One more ? please

stick with the mirage

I%26#39;m not sure why the recent bad reviews, but we%26#39;ve stayed there more times than I can count in the past few years and still love it. You can%26#39;t beat the location and the property has a lot to offer. We always book the Tower Deluxe rooms (for the bigger bathroom w/jet tub) and haven%26#39;t had any complaints. Have a great time!

Stick with the Mirage, it%26#39;s fine. Yes, there was a recent bad review of Mirage (in that person%26#39;s case) but you can find just as many for MGM. Have stayed at both and I prefer the Mirage although MGM was fine. zbethg

I agree with the others that you will like the Mirage. Just don%26#39;t tell Low since he thinks MGM is the best :)

I have stayed at both and the Mirage is a better deal IMHO. The location can%26#39;t be beat--close to lots of other great hotels. Pool is really fun. Stick with the Mirage and ignore the negative posts--you will get all sorts of opinions bad and good!

Thank you gals and guys for your help. I appreciate it alot.

Hi Bianca,

I am also looking to book the Mirage, can you let me know what and where to find the best deals is.

regards

michael78...go to www.smartervegas.com, they have numerous discounts for almost all the hotels in Vegas.

Towards the top middle of the page, click on the Mirage. It will take you to a page that displays all their current offers.

Hope that helps...

I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much about someone who got mugged outside the hotel%26#39;s opinion in reviewing the hotel.

Her opinions would probably be better served in the forum because as she stated she injured herself chasing trying to chase someone down????? How does that make the hotel a 1* hotel?

If you look at all the ';terrible reviews most of them pick one thing they didn%26#39;t like and don%26#39;t even comment on anything else, we had to carry our bags, the person who checked us in didn%26#39;t say happy birthday, the maid didn%26#39;t respect my bad attitude etc etc.

Best buffet for seafood lovers?

Hi, 4 of us are going to Vegas in August and 3 of us love seafood. Can anyone reccommend the best buffet for seafood? but would need to have other options too for our seafood hater.

Best buffet for seafood lovers?

Village seafood buffet Rio

Best buffet for seafood lovers?

I second the DiceMan%26#39;s vote. Definitely best in Vegas, lots of other options too for your non-seafood fan.

sandstring, You should probably try to find out how recently Diceman ate at the Rio Seafood buffet. I have heard/read that it is not as good as it once was. I just read on another thread that he doesn%26#39;t do buffets. Might be best to wait for some more feedback to come in before choosing. btw, I have not eaten there, but my husband and I did eat at the Wynn dinner buffet. I don%26#39;t eat seafood, but my husband thought it was great at Wynn.

The seafood offered at the Wynn was much better; the CHOICES at the Village are more numerous. Yet as we all know, quality and quantity are often on opposing scales.

The quality of food at the Rio is NOT worth the price. For that price, go to a NICER buffet that offers better seafood.

When we were in LV in February, we checked out Terrible%26#39;s (off strip). It happened to be the night of the seafood buffet. I think it was a Thursday night. It was really good with tons of crab legs.

We knew it was going to be good because of the long line waiting for it to start. When we asked what the big to-do was, lots of local LVers said it was the best buffet around.

It has to be good if that%26#39;s where the locals go!

The Rio%26#39;s seafood buffet has really gone downhill. I would recommend Wynn.

Top 5 Downtown/Fremont Hotels?

Okay, we%26#39;ve done the strip a few times. Each time we go downtown, we have a ball! All the casinos are close to one another and the place never goes to sleep. We really want to stay downtown for our trip in July.

So where? We%26#39;d like a cheap and wonderful hotel. For example, we paid $49/night in Feb. for MGM. I%26#39;m guessing we should lean towards Golden Nugget. Is $69/night a good price for there?

Name your picks for us, please :) !

Top 5 Downtown/Fremont Hotels?

1. Golden Nugget

2. 4 Queens

3. Main Street Station

4. El Cortez

5. Fremont

Top 5 Downtown/Fremont Hotels?

I vote for Golden Nugget...their room is spacious and they have the best bread pudding!!!!

Compared to all the other hotels downtown, Golden Nugget wins by a long shot. I love the Golden Nugget, it%26#39;s always a good time. The rooms are up to date, bed are comfortable and the pool is amazing. Plus, I love the food from the Carson Street Cafe there. Golden Nugget is the best downtown.

We%26#39;ve stayed at the Golden Nugget twice and LOVED it. We3 have always got a great rate and great room. We were hoping this trip we%26#39;d stay downtown the whole time but we%26#39;re going kinda/sorta with a group and have decided on the strip just for the ease of meeting up with the others.

Happy trip planning to LV. Less than 5 1/2 weeks, can%26#39;t wait!!!!!

Dietcoke

It looks like Golden Nugget will be the place I push for. Is an average of $69/night for Tues-Sat a good price?

Oops! Just checked again and it%26#39;s $59/night? Will it get lower?

The Top five

1 Golden Nugget

2 Golden Nugget

3 Golden Nugget

4 Golden Nugget

5 Golden Nugget

I%26#39;ve stayed at 6 downtown hotels and yes, the Golden Nugget is the nicest but it is not my favorite at all.

GN (only because it%26#39;s more modern)

4 Queens

Fremont

Main Street Station

El Cortez

Don%26#39;t forget to check the offers on Fatwallet. Golden Nugget ahs some reason offers.

I have not stayed at all of them but here%26#39;s the list of the ones I have stayed at

1) GN. I love it there, and the pool is kickin!!

2) The El Cortez, a tower room, it was very nice, very clean and I liked it a lot!

3) The Plaza (penthouse suite and Mini suite), very dated but clean.. Pink carpet in the penthouse... seriously.. lolz

4) Binions.. It was small, dated, but clean, not worth much a night though..

Lady Lucky would have been #3 but it%26#39;s closed, I liked it there too!

best show w/ my 12 yr. old

Wandering what might be the best show if money wasn%26#39;t the issue. What show is the best out of the cirque du solei shows? How about maybe a majic show or blue man group. Thanx for any feedback...

again: my child will be w/ me

best show w/ my 12 yr. old

wondering

magic

it doesn%26#39;t matter if the 12 yo will be with you - I don%26#39;t think they belong at any evening show in LV. Just my opinion, which you asked for. I%26#39;m sure others will have ideas. You asked abour Cirque, blue man and magic - do you want all of them or just 1?

best show w/ my 12 yr. old

I believe that Mystere would be the best Cirque show for your child- it is suitable and enjoyable for all ages. Excalibur has ';Tournament of Kings';- both a show and a dinner that is popular with children (and some adults on this forum). Blue Man Group is one show that you are either going to love or hate( I am with the hate group). But it is suitable for children that age (who love loud noises!).

I would stick with Mystere.

If your 12 year old doesn%26#39;t get freaked out by blood I would suggest Penn and Teller. It is a fun show and they meet the audience and pose for pictures after the show. The CDS show that I saw was Love. I thought it was great, but unless your child likes beatles music I am not sure they would enjoy it, but there is lots of activity to watch.

Hope this helps!

Lion King, Lance Burton magic show, and Mystere(cirque show) might be nice.

Lion King, Lion King, Lion King.....

Criss Angel. I was just talking to a 12 year old last week and she gave Criss a ';freakin%26#39; awesome'; review.

Second vote Tournament of Kings. Has Horses. Who doesn%26#39;t love horses. The magic show at Tropicana, don%26#39;t remember it%26#39;s name, was good.

My 12 year-old son loved KA. Lots of action. We had a great time!

My 11 yr liked Tournemant of kings, Mac King, Lion King.

What is it about Chris Angel and 12 yr olds?

my DD was begging to see him since another kid at school told her he was awesome.

Could 2 kids be right and 20 other Adults be wrong about his show?

Told DD no way we are going to see him, over my dead body, but I didnt like the look that came to her eyes. LOL

My 12yr old as well as his mom loved Lance Burton.

  • West Wendover Car Rental

I will be in W.Wendover in July and would like to take a day trip to SLCity. Last year there was a car rental desk at the Montego Bay - Hertz - but now I understand that they are no longer there. I have searched for car rental places in the Wendover yellow pages, online agencies, etc. but have had no luck. The closest place to rent seems to be Elko or Ely, which obviously won%26#39;t work. I%26#39;ve even looked at the casino shuttle from Salt Lake to see if we could hop on that, but the times just don%26#39;t work.

We are also considering doing either a horseback or ATV excursion. The Salt Flats tour last year was great. Any advice or info on the car, ATV/horse trips or Wendover, in general, would be much appreciated! Thanks!

    Brenda

    West Wendover Car Rental

The car rental info can be found in other posts (I think the name of the place is S%26amp;R, it%26#39;s a used dealer).

We did a 4 hr. ATV trip, it was a lot of fun, with some great scenery.

There%26#39;s not much to do in Wendover, though the golf course is pretty good and quite affordable. It%26#39;s a good trip, but you kind of have to make your own fun - the town won%26#39;t entertain you all on it%26#39;s own.

Check the concert hall listings. If there%26#39;s someone playing that you even want to see a LITTLE bit, it may be worth checking out.

There%26#39;s a movie theatre a couple blocks (I think) north of Montego Bay.

If you go planning to have a good time, you should enjoy West Wendover.

    Vegas Wedding at the MGM

    Hi everyone -

My fiance and I are looking to get married early next year at the MGM Grand. We are planning to get a ceremony package and host a small reception at Diego%26#39;s (the Mexican Restaurant at the MGM).

Everything looks great online but I would like to see if any of you have attended a wedding at the MGM and if so, did you like it.

Have any of you tried Diego%26#39;s? Would you recommend it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    found cheap car rental

i used the id code i found on this post the other day and got a really good rate from alamo.com.122 with taxes included. the corp ID code is 7012298, i even e-mailed alamo about using the code to see if it was valid. they responded that it was indeed valid and ok to use, and said i could decline the insurance that it says is included when i pick up the car.

    found cheap car rental

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!

I booked my car for 11 days and got it for less than $200 total...wow...you saved me almost $100!!!

Will they ask for anything when I check in, like id of the corp., etc????

    Please advise!!!

    found cheap car rental

no don%26#39;t think they will ask for anything. i told them at alamo that i just got the code online and wanted to know if it was valid because i got a really cheap rate. they said yes it was valid . I even gave them my reservation confirmation number so they could check the actual reservation.. if you have any questions i would e-mail alamo, there is a contact form for them on their website... i even saved the e-mail that they responded to me with just in case. if you e-mail them i%26#39;m curious if you get the same response.. keep us posted...

Sweet!! I had a pretty good deal to begin with, but this just saved me almost $50 on a minivan for a week. THANK YOU!!

Thanks so much for info saved $50.00 on our rental. Every little bit helps. More pennies for the slots!

I booked last night using the $25 off promo and the 10% off for prepay and got a great deal. Note you can%26#39;t get an economy car with this deal.

Oh my gosh! We just started planning a trip for July. I saw this and thought I%26#39;d check it out.

The price for 4 days was regularly $191. The cost with this code is $84. I had to get it!! :)

We might not have a hotel or flight yet, but, danggit, we have a car!!! :)

A good reminder to check rental bookings...so I checked my next Dollar rental for Aug (1 week) and found it was $50.00 cheaper so I rebooked. Thanks for the reminder!

by the way...I also checked that Alamo code and the devil is in the detail...extras...so make sure you see all the costs.

    first vegas trip

Planning a trip for my husband and I next month. I%26#39;d like some hotel advice from all you vegas experts! We are in our forties, like to have fun, but not crazy partiers. On the other hand, don%26#39;t want to stay somewhere quiet or stuffy either! Would like a great pool and fun atmosphere. I would like to surprise him for our twenty fifth anniversary so don%26#39;t mind spending the money. I greatly appreciate your help!

    first vegas trip

The Mirage or MGM!! Happy 25th!!

    S;-)

    first vegas trip

Check out the Palazzo, there is a code on here somewhere for a good rate. Excellent hotel, casino, shopping, pools and restaurants. I think it is the perfect place for those in their 40%26#39;s that want something fun, but not too stuffy or quiet.

    Venetian/Pallazo or Wynn/Encore.

These would be lovely for spending 25th Anniversary.

    Congrats!

Venetain %26amp; Pallazo have good pools as does Wynn.

The pool at Encore is not as good but guests of Encore can use the pools at Wynn.

Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, or Pallazo (in order of my preference).

All have a good vibe, very nice, and great for just about any age, but especially 30+.

I would jump at a great rate for Wynn. Love that place. Some will tell you that they are not a huge fan of the location, but you can still get to anywhere on the strip in not a whole lot of time (unless traffic is at a stand-still). Even then, you can walk or head to the mono-rail.

I love Vegas and have been many times. I am going to do something strange, I am going to recommend a place I have never stayed. I recommend the Venetian/Palazo. I think the place has a great vibe, great location and I hear the rooms are amazing. I have stayed at MGM, Monte Carlo, Treasure Island, Excalibur, etc. I think for what you are looking for (I am also in my 40s)the Venetian is the perfect location. Have fun!!!

I have to agree with all the recommendations here. Just don%26#39;t stay at the Hard Rock :D

    Great pool = Bellagio.

Great customer service and far from stuffy.

I%26#39;d go with Encore, Wynn, Palazzo, or Venetian, in that order. There are some amazing rates for Encore/Wynn on smartervegas.com. Wynn (and its sibling Encore) somehow manages to feel incredibly luxurious but not at all stuffy, so that would be perfect for you and your husband on this special occasion.

Everybody is recommending high end places...why not Imperial Palace or Excalbur. Good pools.Fun casino

Thanks to all for your help, I had researched Palazzo but had seen some not so great reviews, glad to hear you all reccomend it. Any ideas for something special for us to do? Not really into shows. He really is a great husband/dad so would like to do something great for him! Thanks again, you guys are great!

Best Hotel Pool for 15 year old

We%26#39;re planning on going to Vegas for 3 days in June. I can%26#39;t decide where to stay MGM grand,Signature at MGM, or Rio or anyother suggestion. We will be traveling with our 15 year old son.

Best Hotel Pool for 15 year old

Tell us what ';best pool for 15 yo'; means to him.

Best Hotel Pool for 15 year old

Do you have a teenager? A fun place for a teenager.

MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Mirage all have big nice pools.

MGM Signature is good hotel for familys becuase it%26#39;s not as much as a party(loud/obnoxious) hotel compared to others in Las Vegas. If you stay at Signature you can use the MGM%26#39;s main pool free of charge.

as previous poster mentioned.. MGM pools would be a great choice for a 15 year old.. enjoy.

Thanks for the input on the MGM signature, I wasn%26#39;t sure about using all the pools. That helps alot!

yes, I%26#39;ve had 8 teenagers. Have also had and have teenage grandchildren. Irrelevant to YOUR teenager. Not all like the same thing - and since we don%26#39;t know your teenager we can better help you if tell us what ';best'; is to him.

msspy, the Rio has a pool with girls from Sapphire. I would think most 15 year olds would enjoy that.

MGM or Mandalay Bay are my favorite pools.

so far MGM, Mirage, Mandy and Rio have been suggested. Which one is best for your son?

When I was 15 any pool with lots of hot chicks in bikinis would be just fine with me. Hmmm. Not much has changed for me in 31 years.

The pools at Signature are boring.

Caesars Palace - Pool area reopened?

    Hi

im just to book at Caesars Palace from 19 June for 4 nights, are you able to tell me if the pool has been reopened at all?

    thanks

    Poppy

Caesars Palace - Pool area reopened?

Hi. We just returned from 5 days at Caesar%26#39;s. Our room overlooked the pool. Augustus tower. Awesome room. Circle pool with fountains in middle was open (maybe Neptune) . Venus pool was open and they were working on the other more lap type pool. Looked out the window this morning low and behold. . . the big pool was full of sparkling clean water! So you should be okay.

Great trip. . . although weather was hot hot for May. Play BJ at Tropicana. Pays 3-2 lot%26#39;s of $5 tables CW%26#39;s and dealers were great, friendy and seemed to like their job. QuackShot was my friend. hit 1000 on both quarters and dollar machines. (Mirage and Caesar%26#39;s . . . .course then they went cold. . )

Have a great trip Poppy! Let me know if any more questions.

Caesars Palace - Pool area reopened?

Thank you Keenan!!! you have got me all excited, so looking forward to it, Ill book it now!

walgreens close to mirage for snacks and water

There%26#39;s a new Walgreens by the Venetian across the Strip from Mirage.

walgreens close to mirage for snacks and water

Not only is there a Walgreens across the street from the Mirage, they are building condos on top of it! Does it get any better than this? Alas, the building has ceased but there is a lovely crane %26amp; unfinished construction to guide you to The Promised Land

I%26#39;m from Canada and I know I%26#39;ve been to Walgreens before. My question is, are there any grocery store items in store? Some of our pharmacies in Canada now carry grocery store items. If not, what%26#39;s the closest grocery store to the Mirage?

    Does Walgreens sell Beer?

No booze at Walgreens. Closest places to Mirage would be ABC Store in Fashion Show Mall or the liquor store by Carnaval Court at Harrah%26#39;s.

Is there a walgreens or somewhere to buy water and snacks near the four seasons?

Neither Walgreen%26#39;s nor CVS on the strip sell liquor.

Beside the Walgreens near the Palazzo- there is a Walgreen%26#39;s and a CVS next to/across the street from the Monte Carlo. They are good for snacks and water.

Besides the ABC Store at Fashion Show Mall- there is one (possibly 2) Miracle Mile Mall at PH. They do sell liquor

    Presidential Limo Up-Charge

Hi, all! I have been lurking around here for a while in preparation for a trip in July. I%26#39;ve been to Vegas 20+ times; however, after the birth of my son the trips/frequency have dramatically changed!

So my question - We used Presidential Limousine for our last trip two years ago. I just called to make a reservation and upon completing the information with the agent, he informed me that they would charge my CC, the day before, for the amount +30% for ';any additional charges.'; The 30% would be credited back a few days later, if we didn%26#39;t use it. I told the guy, ';Look all we want is taken to the hotel. There won%26#39;t be any other charges.'; He said that is their policy and when you rent a car they do the same thing - I disagreed. I don%26#39;t believe they did this the last time we used them.

Did anyone else have this happen and when was this put into place. It made me angry and I cancelled the reservation. The $30 isn%26#39;t the issue, but I don%26#39;t want the hassle of checking to see if it was credited or dealing with the overcharge if it wasn%26#39;t.

I called National Transportation and made arrangements for a one way trip for $60. No charges, extra fees, etc. Said we could pay cash or CC upon arrival at the hotel.

    Presidential Limo Up-Charge

Never heard of this 30% add on, Robyn. We used Presidential last week, last August, and I just booked another ride about an hour ago.

We%26#39;ve had outstanding service and NO hidden fees with this company.

    Presidential Limo Up-Charge

I used them the end of March, I didn%26#39;t get charged anything extra up front. In fact, I could have paid in either cash or by cc. They did require my cc number at time of booking though.

I%26#39;m wondering if they do this all the time, but since I called direct and didn%26#39;t book it online, they told me about it.

    Oh well!

This may well be their policy. I was not charged until after the event, actually a couple of weeks after I came home, and it was just the $60 for a trip from the airport to the %26#39;sign%26#39; and to our hotel, therefore I never knew about it. I wouldn%26#39;t worry in any case. I think they are a very reputable company. They certainly have a lot of folks on this site who seem to attest to that.

FYI - I was curious about this previous phone conversation and contacted Presidential through their chat line. Following is a copy of the chat:

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

    You are now chatting with %26#39;Presidential Limousine%26#39;

    Presidential Limousine: Hello.

Presidential Limousine: Please let me know if there is anything that I may help you with today.

you: hi I recently called to book an airport transfer - as I was having trouble with our website.

you: the person I spoke with told me after my reservation was complete - that I would be charged 30% over the cost, the day prior to the reservation, for any additional charges that we may incur.

Presidential Limousine: Should be 48 hours in advance.

you: so you do upcharge 30%? and then refund at a later date?

Presidential Limousine: It will be a ';pre authorization'; , and yes, it will be credited back after the res is complete.

    you: if the ';additional service are not needed';

    Presidential Limousine: Right.

    you: thank you for clarifying

Those who use Presidential should be aware they do preauthorize/charge you for 30% over their quote and then refund the difference if you ';do not use additional services';.

You may want to verify your charges.

Why is it that you are the only person here that claims this?

It must be a conspiracy, huh?

BTW, if you booked National Transportation, why are you still hung up on PL????

Do you work or have a family member that works for National?

Odd that you keep bringing up PL.

Ha! I was only sharing the information. As I noted I have used them in the past and this wasn%26#39;t disclosed. Take it for what it%26#39;s worth.

And Yes I did book with someone else but was just thinking to myself why hasn%26#39;t anyone else mentioned this and I rechecked through their chat.

Oh yes it%26#39;s a big conspiracy! Give me a break.

no big deal - just as hotels put a hold on a card, apparently so does presidential. the terms were disclosed, you didnlt like them and went elsewhere. good.

no reason to make you angry - terms are terms, maybe this a new policy, maybe not. you don%26#39;t like the terms you don%26#39;t use presidential.

If this is a new policy- then people should be told about it. That is one of the things that makes this forum useful-sharing information. Thanks.

Car rentals also put a hold on your cc.

    Beds in Vegas

Who has the best beds in Vegas? I am talking ultimate luxury in comfort, better than home with the softest pillows and linens.

    Beds in Vegas

    Four Seasons

    Beds in Vegas

I have stayed at Mirage, TI and MGM. All of them had exceptional beds. They made my bed at home feel like concrete! The casinos want you well rested so you%26#39;ll gamble more! LOL!

Flamingo GO bed is the best I%26#39;ve slept on in Vegas, hands down.

    Any ideas on MB?

    The Mirage by far!!

    Another vote for Four Seasons

The best beds in Vegas, Wynn, Encore, both of these so comfy that you don%26#39;t want to get up. Caesars so comfy like sleeping on air, Flamingo Go Beds very heavenly.

The Flamingo Go Room? Really? I have reservations there in July so that excites me! I sleep on a king serta at home and I love it. I%26#39;m always disappointed when I sleep in hotels that dont have a quality bed so now I%26#39;m curious to see if I finally get a nice comfy bed. With all the walking we%26#39;ll do my back will sure enjoy the comfort!

Another vote here for the Flamingo Go room. Ahhh.

    Four Seasons by a mile.

*sigh* i wish i could afford to stay there again :-(

try michaels arts and craft stores.

There is a Michaels on Pecos and Russell. There are more, but this is the one I go to and it is probably the closest to the Strip. (If you are staying at Orleans, the one at Sahara and Decatur is closer.)

    Liquor store near Bally's?

Hee hee- I always promised myself I wouldn%26#39;t ask this type of question; however, we need to be budget-minded on this trip.

Of course, once I win big at craps, I%26#39;ll go ahead and order the Crown Royal and Dom from room service, but before that happens, I think we may get thirsty.

    Liquor store near Bally's?

Stage Door on Audrie at the rear of the Flamingo.

    Liquor store near Bally's?

There is a store that sells beer--don%26#39;t know if they have liquor too right across the street behind Bills. Just go out the side door and there is a crosswalk there.

Jarod%26#39;s Mom, that is the store that Blagger posted about. And yes, the Stage Door sells liquor as well as beer, wine, packaged deli meats, cheese, etc.

    Laughlin Speed Trap

I am heading to Laughlin in a few days, and just was thinking about the Needles Highway. I think the police target the California drive in crowd. It must be a good money making deal for law enforcement.

The Needles Highway has all the makings of a speed trap. As you drive in from Needles, the California section of the road is just terrible, and the speed limit is 55, which is ok with the bad road, dips and curves. Then you hit the California/Nevada state line, and the road is straight, no dips and nicely paved. The speed limit is still 55, although (in my opinion) 65 is a safe speed on this nice road. Don%26#39;t speed. Now, as you get closer to Laughlin, the road improves even more- we now have a 4 lane highway with sweeping curves, but they have lowered the speed limit down to 45. I do not see the logic of this, as there is no foot traffic, non residential, and a non commercial area. Don%26#39;t speed, as the police always seem to be hiding. My last trip in, I saw two ticket writings in action..... One had an Arizona license plate, and one California.

This speed trap is just that, and is written up on various speed trap websites, but most people don%26#39;t pay attention. Now I just slow down as I have learned the sad truth, but I know some do not. I have even had some pass me over the double line, as I was going too slow (speed limit). Really unsafe!

Yes, the speed limits are well posted, but in my opinion there are set too artificially low so that it becomes an easy revenue for the police.

Also, watch out if you turn onto Casino drive at the signal. It is another low speed limit, and it is down hill, so it is easy to gain speed here too. The police seem to watch this stretch also.

You have been warned. If you get a ticket it is your own fault. LOL

    Laughlin Speed Trap

Since I always drive this route coming in from SoCal,have the same thoughts as CaSwede. This road would be safe if the speed limits were raised 5-10 mph in many sections. On the other hand, this a dangerous road, with many crashes.Because of the low speed limits, the danger may actually be increased.Impatient, frustrated drivers will ignore the speed limits and make dangerous moves like passing in a double stripe zone or passing multiple vehicles at once.Late Friday and Saturday nights are often deadly times according to what locals have told me.The law presence is large, and on almost every trip will see someone pulled over.Have a rule that so far has not gotten me a ticket;absolutely no more than 5 mph over the posted speed limit. The 5 mile stretch on Casino Drive after making the right turn off of Needles Highway is even more absurd;a maddening 35 mph posted speed limit.50 would be perfectly safe and sensible. To avoid this nonsense,I now just proceed straight ahead through Laughlin proper, posted 45 mph,and turn right at Woodbury Dr. and down the hill.Saves a bit of time and frazzle.

    Laughlin Speed Trap

As I am sure most Laughlin locals will agree, the California race track drivers in their mad rush to get to the casinos on weekends are the very reason that these ';speed traps'; exist. I would hypothesize that 90% of those drivers who pass me like maniacs in the 45 mph limt zone coming into Laughlin on Needles Highway are from CA. This comes from years of looking at the plates of those flying by as we come from the Avi on Friday or Saturday evening.

The casinos have lobbied to get the limits in such areas raised up in order not to offend the lucrative California buisness coming to town. That would certainly accomplish little. If the 45 on Needles Highway were raised to 55, the California drivers would I am quite certain drive 65.

There does seem to be a simple solution. If these folks would begin their journey to Laughlin twenty minutes earlier they could obey the speed limit laws and still get there at the same time as they previously did. Hmmmmm

Just some observations from a local yokel who probably knows far less about what is good for Laughlin than the CA folks do.

Totally agree grif......from another dummy who just lives here.

I just drove from the Avi to Needles on my way to the London Bridge today and didn%26#39;t see a single cop.

But I have to agree I drive around 5 miles over the speed limit and still get passed by people going 20 over and this was all day on I10 heading to phoenix which is 75 mph already. I was cut off by a Prius when he made a left right in front me, which then had to have been driving 90mph, tail gated at 80mph and passed over and over. All California plates. I%26#39;m not saying Arizona drivers are any better because they are just as bad.

But you don%26#39;t know what a speed trap is. 20 miles from Phoenix and I10 has mobile radar vans, and permanent fixtures every 2 miles then all the way through Phoenix permanent radar fixtures every few miles. These are under the road sensor systems and can flash multiple cars in multiple lanes at once.

In Laughlin I%26#39;ve seen them most at Casino Drive at the bottom of a blind turn and hill they%26#39;ll sit. Just before Gilligan%26#39;s. Slow speed limit and big hill right before the cops.

    As a newly semi-transplanted CA driver that has driven to Laughlin 14 out of the past 15 weekends (no typo there) I find that stretch of road from the Avi to Gilligans very irritating. Not really from a %26#39;

I gotta get there now%26#39; point of view, but mainly from a %26#39;my senses -35 years of driving- feel like 45 through that stretch just isn%26#39;t right. I can see no reason for that speed limit other than a revenue generator. I%26#39;ve seen the Police SUV%26#39;s tucked up in the bushes, pulled of the road in the darker areas, just waiting for the innocent suspect that may be driving %26#39;by feel%26#39;, not rules. I would say at least half of those 14 trips there was at least one driver pulled over, a couple of times there were 2 drivers, just a couple of hundred yards apart. I guess it%26#39;s good for the city - a city I hope to call home shortly, but come on. From Gilligans north through %26#39;town%26#39; sure, but south of there... I don%26#39;t think so.

Now that I think about it, it%26#39;s still 45 mph north of Bruce Woodbury towards 163... it%26#39;s a desert up there and there%26#39;s actually a section that%26#39;s 35 mph!

We have been going to Laughlin for years and understand the locals feelings of wanting to protect their area, but the truth is it is real easy to go over the limit on that stretch. We have lived in small towns and big cities over the last ten years and the truth is the posted speed limits in that area are common sense low. In twelve years since I turned 21 I have never gotten a ticket in that area and honestly if I was a local I would think our local police would be better served patrolling my neighborhoods or ensuring the drunks stay in the casino rather than pulling over motorists doing 55 in a four lane strech of 45.

After spending 2 winters in laughlin area I agree with the locals on their opionion of the stretch of road mentioned. We don%26#39;t particularly like to go 45 mph but resign ourselves to it and allow ourselves plenty of time to get where we are going. It always amazes us how the speed signs are ignored over and over. And sorry CA the speeders are most often from your state!!! Nothing personal here, just true..we have had them ride our bumper, honk their horn (my husband abides the limit with a wee bit extra)and some have flipped us off as they are screaming around us. Many times we have seen cars pass ours or other cars with barely enough room to do so. I have yet to have a uneventful trip coming or going to Avi..and with the drinkers leaving the casino I for one feel a bit safer knowing that it is being patrolled!! So because of what we have seen I do not believe it is a speed trap but something that is needed to keep us all safe..so it is simple, SLOW DOWN!!

The bottom line is slow down when you come to our town or stay home. And don%26#39;t move here if you can%26#39;t support our town either. Nuff said!

I can definitely see both sides of the argument. I do think if the posted limit is intentially set ';too'; low (i.e., they set the speed limit 20 MPH slower than what is safe and hope no one will do more than 20 MPH over the limit), then often it%26#39;s the law abiding drivers (those going the posted 45 or whatever) that are put in danger by the maniacs going WAY too fast.

I don%26#39;t know...seems the best thing is to set the speed limit at a reasonable level, and enforce the heck out of it. That way when law-abiding drivers are doing 55 (or whatever), they%26#39;re a little less likely to get run over by the idiot doing 80. The idiot doing 80 is going to do 80 whether the posted speed limit is 45 or 55. So instead of punishing the ';reasonable'; drivers going 55 in a 45, crack down on the unsafe drivers doing 75 in a 55.

Of course I don%26#39;t live in Laughlin so perhaps there%26#39;s other issues I don%26#39;t know about, and as a visitor I will follow the law of the land...but that%26#39;s my .02 for what it%26#39;s worth!

Oh yah!! Raise the speed limit ?! Instead of the speed racers doing a mere 80 they%26#39;ll bump it to an even 100!!!! Problem solved!!

  • MGM or The Wynn

Hello to anyone who can give a little input,

Me and my husband are in our early 30%26#39;s we recieved an offer from MGM for the Celebrity Spa Suite for 5 nights (July 12-17) for $400 plus $35 free dining/entertainment credit, 2/1 spa, %26amp; $25free play. Now we stayed in this room last year and it was awesome but here is what The Wynn is offering: $99 a night, free room upgrade, $50free play + $25 extra freeplay if staying 4 or more nights (which we are). If anyone could give some advice it would be appreciated, Thanks!!!!!

    MGM or The Wynn

Wynn. The free upgrade will presumably only be to a panoramic view room but even so the whole experience is on a completely different level to MGM.

    MGM or The Wynn

No doubts at all, the Wynn. Wynn 5 stars, MGM 4 stars.. enough said.

    Wynn

    no comparison in the properties.

Wynn no questions ask????!!!!! Wynn is more luxurious with high end amenities in the room huge room %26amp; bathroom, extra large towels %26amp; the staff treats you as royalty.

Go with the WYNN you won%26#39;t regret it + they lots of great places to eat.

You actually have to ask? Even MGM loyal Lowrance would cross over to the ';red side'; on this one.

If you have never been to the Wynn, how did you get that $99 a night offer???? I%26#39;m jealous.

WYNN hands down. No comparason. The upgrade will be to a coner panoramic view room with floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides. WYNN beats MGM by a mile.

    Any stores close to Orleans?

I%26#39;ll be making a solo trip via plane (we usually drive and load up on drinks and snacks) and wanted to know 2 things:

    1. Is there a place nearby where such things can be purchased?

    2. Can I use a cab and have him/her wait whilst I go and retrieve said items?

    Thanks to all that help!

    Any stores close to Orleans?

Add the xtra taxi fare to the cost of snacks and it will be cheaper to buy then at the Orleans.

    OR

Walk up to the gas station near the Palms on Tropicana and buy the stuff there.

    Any stores close to Orleans?

Why dont you just have the taxi stop on your way to the HOTEL and pick up your drinks.

If I recall correctly there is a gas station right across the street from the Orleans. But I don%26#39;t know if their prcies would be much better then the gift shop, they did have snacks and stuff in their gift shop too.

We just were at the Orleans for the last 4 days. Pop and snacks are very expensive, $3.00 a bottle and chips were 1.50 a bag. There is a gas station close by, but a lot of traffice. Cab fare is high, and they charge a lot to wait on you.

If you are staying at the Orleans, it was the best and we will always go back

    Have a great time

If you are staying at the Orleans, it was the best and we will always go back

Please tell me why it was the best and how many other hotels you have stayed at to come to this conclusion, Im thinking of giving up the Bellagio to stay here should I?

I can give you several reasons:

The rooms were clean, big, cozy and much better then where we ever stayead before.

We asked for view, it was great view of the strip,

It was very quite in your room no outside noise at all

The cleaning service did an excellent job

The buffett was ok, breakfast was great, and so was the evening meal- outside cafe was ok, but i ended up sick from it ( my fault not theirs)

Machines were fun win some lose some

Front desk staff and employees were kind, helpful, eager to please you the patron.

Downfall, parking, you had to walk a long way to your room, and drag your stuff through the casino,

smoke was bad, I thought, someone people it did not bother,

I really think you would like it,we had a great time

    Diceman;

I hope I know you well enough from here to say you jest. Say it ain%26#39;t so. Orleans - the best vs the Bellagio. As you very well know one of the two is a one star and the other a five star. I hope they can figure out which is which DiceMan? I know we can and we would not be caught dead or alive at the big O.

A few days ago I was looking at photos of the Orleans guestrooms posted from people here on Trip Advisor and they look to still be in decent shape.

    Hi,

I was there last week. They have a liquor store in the hotel advertising the ';Lowest Prices in Vegas';. I didn%26#39;t go in to check it out. There is a Walgreens just to the East that is within walking distance.

There are many different restaurants in the hotel. Overall I really liked the place.

Orleans is known as the place to buy resonable priced liquor. Walgreen%26#39;s will have snack, water, etc.

I wouldn%26#39;t take a cab for snacks. If need be -wait until you are coming back from the strip and buy things at the Walgreen%26#39;s, CVS or ABC stores (they do sell liquor) on the strip.

Ten Nights - Eleven Days A Survivor's Tale - Part Two

    The Saga Continues:

    I left part one with Debbie resting on the chase and I enjoying a few Fat Tires - Here we go %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

I probably drank three, awoke Debbie to get her into bed, and I followed.

I am a world class insomniac - I went to sleep after mid-night and awoke at about three. Debbie sleeping well, I grabbed my camera from the night stand, PT hooptie keys, and decided that I would go out and get some pic%26#39;s of the neon.

Debbie sleeping soundly, I left her a note explaining what I was doing. The note was not necessary, for I do this all the time irregardless of where we go, but it is something I do ;)

I get the PT Hooptie, and head south as we have not visited the redone ';Las Vegas Sign';, I take several pic%26#39;s, front and back - move onto the ';Little Church of the West'; for pic%26#39;s, then onto the crossroads of Trop and LVB.

I quickly found a parking space in the garage - parked and hoofed it to the front of the Trop. for pic%26#39;s, then across the walkway to the EX., then to NYNY, MGM was next and back to the Trop.

Two hours of pic taking and I%26#39;m a happy camper ;)

I return to the room to find Debbie making coffee and having not found my note, concerned. I, with a smile asked her if she could guess what I was up to, and she looked at me, wearing the shorts I sleep in, a t-shirt, shoes with no socks, and hair a mess, smiled and said ';You went out taking Pictures Didn%26#39;t You?';. I happily brought her into my arms - a sweet kiss exchanged and told her ';Yes Baby, and I hope you enjoy them';.

She hugged me and exclaimed, ';If you took them, I know I will Love Them';.

I have shared some, but not even a 10th of what pic%26#39;s I have taken, but we will deal with that soon ;)

I%26#39;ll get on to Saturday soon enough. A Great Day for Sure ;)

Ten Nights - Eleven Days A Survivor's Tale - Part Two

As long as you share the pics everyone will be okay with this. Was there any people out at that time and I can imagine what may have shot if there was those about. Care to share?

Ten Nights - Eleven Days A Survivor's Tale - Part Two

Really enjoying your TR. I was wondering if you feel Desert Rose was walkable to the strip? We have been considering staying there next year. It gets such good reviews. Would you ever stay there again? Thanks a Heap. Tami

Really enjoying your TR, DPD! Continue, please!

First off I am a regular, and I am enjoying your TR, but I have this continuing problem with it...which is you seem to both drink at the casinos, which is great, dont care but are driving at the same time. It is a continuing theme throughout your TR.

I am sorry, but I just cant, and I know I cant be the only one to condone this without saying something, maybe Im missing something... but I just had to say my two cents

Time to answer a few questions from you all -

2b, I am in the process of cropping and enhancing many of the over 1000 pics taken. I will not bore you all with the entire collection, so it will take some time to Cull the number down to say the top 100 or so.

As for whether there were many people out and about - Not really. I did run into three young fellows who were quit well pickled. The were trying to assist each other navigate the escalator down to the intersection at NYNY headed towards the EX.

ATrudy40, We did have a problem with the Desert Rose, and I will explain this as we close this, Part Two. What I will refer to as ';The Incident'; occurred on Monday. I will tell you all that at this Time, The Desert Rose is working with us to find an agreeable settlement.

VP03, Thanks for the Kind Words ;)

MusTask, I assure you, that at no time I drove our PT Hooptie, was I drunk. We have a saying here in Georgia, that ';Buzzed Driving - Is Drunk Driving!'; and I guess I was walking a thin line. I am a regular beer drinker and ten beers would barely affect me. Never a drunk, and being a large man, my tolerance in very high. Also, if you read what is said, there is generally a period prior to leaving a casino to drive that I abstain from drink and enjoy a few cups of coffee or several bottles of water.

But I applaud your question and concern. Thank You :)

    ';I am a regular beer drinker and ten beers would barely affect me.';

Are you serious, PP? I hope not.

Having lost two friends and almost two family members to someone who thought they could drink and drive....I must agree with Mustask%26#39;s comments.

Even if you could drink ten beers and barely be affected, you%26#39;re still promoting drinking and driving and that%26#39;s wrong!

From what I%26#39;ve heard, I think this might have the makings for a %26#39;Harlequin Romance%26#39; novel.

BhamBound, I agree with you and would never promote ';Drinking and Driving';! Again, there is always time prior to getting behind the wheel were either coffee or water is drank.

Having served as a Deputy Sheriff for over a year, I have seen more carnage as a result of decisions had.

Also, in my Military days, I was Senior Corpsmen at MCRD and NavHostBFT. Trust me, I know what happens and would never chance that with Debbie in the car with me, that and I love me way to much to risk myself as well.

I Must Thank You for this reply, and hopefully, my statements have cleared this up ;)

Boy Are You All Lucky - I Just Found that%26#39;s today%26#39;s work will be starting late, so lets get some more done for your enjoyment ;)

We sat out on our balcony, enjoying coffee, a few smokes and Debbie feeding the Pigeons which now numbered nearly a dozen.

I quickly showered. dressed and ran over to MGM Grand to get my Paq. vs Hatton $5.00 Chips. It being nearly 7:00am, this place was packed, surely with many whom would be watching the fight later that evening. I walk the edge of the casino, figuring I would quickly find the ';Master'; Cage, but I had forgotten just how massive this place is. I stopped by the Lion enclosure, but the kitties were yet to be delivered and put on display, so with pace quickened, off I go. I finally find the cage, no line, thankfully, put a twenty on the counter and ask for four $5.00 chips. The cage attendant replied that she didn%26#39;t have any as of yet, but I could probably find what I was wanting if I went to the tables. Dooh!!!!! I had walked past them 15 minutes prior and about what seemed ten miles ago.

Back to the hunt, I finally find the BJ tables, chose a table with no players and proceed to place my twenty on the felt and make my request. A Quick note for my fellow Chip Hounds: For some reason, almost every time I requested chips at the tables, the dealer felt it needed to request permission from the Pit Boss. My request was never denied, but I did find it odd. Any way, the dealer gets the Pit Boss, she approves my request, and finally, happy, I have four brand new $5.00 Paq. vs Hatton chips to add to my collection. Back to the edges of the casino, find the parking deck, then the PT Hooptie and back to the Desert Rose to pick up Debbie for breakfast.

With Debbie in tow, we head back over to Terribles, yes with a 2 for 1. Sat. and Sun. are Champagne Brunch so the price is something like $9.99 per person, with the 2 for 1, we both enjoyed our breakfast with a few glasses of Champagne (Truth is, that they serve a California Sparkling wine which was nice). Tip left, so did we to head downstairs for some play.

The Wizard of Oz I had been playing the past mornings was out of service, but the one Debbie had been playing was working, she sat down, inserted her players card and a twenty and away she went ;) I roamed around, looking for a machine to play and settled on a Da Vinci%26#39;s Diamonds which was close to Debbie. I too, inserted my players card and a twenty. I could hear that Debbie had gotten into the bonus, so I started my play. After about ten or twelve spins, my machines locks up. I start looking to see what the problem was only to discover that I had accidentally hit ';Max Bet'; and was starring at Five Da Vinci Diamond symbols. Max bet was I think $3.00. It paid $250. and would not let me continue my play until it finish totaling the credits won.

Instead of being smart and cashing out or at least reducing my bet back to one credit per line, as you might guess, played on and returned my win to the machine to include my starting twenty. I pulled my players card, went to find Debbie who had left her Wizard of OZ, to find her in line at the cage, waiting to cash in a twenty dollar voucher. I later found out that she dropped forty at Terribles, but for about two hours of play, great drink service, and a few bonuses, we had fun.

We had forgotten to grab one of our laptops from home to bring with us, and knowing the Desert Rose offers free Wi-Fi, Debbie asked if we could go over to Frye%26#39;s and maybe buy one off those micro lap tops.

For those who decide to ride over to Frye%26#39;s, it is easier to get to if you enter at the Town Center Shopping area and drive through there then trying to find Frye%26#39;s actual entry.

We park the PT Hooptie, head all the way to the back of the store and begin comparing options between the mini%26#39;s. These things are tiny and would easily fit in an average ladies pocket book.

After checking things out, and Debbie playing with the four models available, I decide to look at the lap tops. As many may already know, these mini%26#39;s have no CD/DVD Drive, come with three USB ports and not much more at about $300 on the bottom end. Debbie and I talk about the pros%26#39; and cons, and we decide on purchasing a Gateway Laptop which has all the bells and whistles, and just about twice the size of a mini for $349.00. We pick a computer bag, wireless mouse, so on and so forth. After all is said and done, we pay a total of less then $500 to include the three year extended warranty.

Back to the Desert Rose to play with the new toy, and that we did. I uploaded the pic%26#39;s taken to date and post a ';Hello'; on the Mega Thread, then off to find the ';M';.

I guess I may be boring many with the depth of this TR, but I hope in the details, some info is helpful to at least one whom reads this ;)

I%26#39;m still following along Perfect Plants! Looking forward to the rest.

Has anyone stayed here since they were renovated?

I%26#39;ve never thought much of that hotel before but from what I saw on Youtube, the rooms actually looked nice. Well, maybe not Venetian nice but still good.

Not sure when the renovation was, but I%26#39;ve stayed there twice, the last time being September 2008 - for the money and the location, I think it can%26#39;t be beat...I mean, if you can afford the higher rooms, then go for it, especially right now, but they said rates are starting to go back up - and this place is usually less than $100 a night on the weekends, and less than $70 during the week - and my personal favorite part is that from the strip to your room takes all of 3 minutes - no hike through miles of casino.

Plus there is a fridge and safe in every room, and there is security on the elevators (you can%26#39;t get to them without swiping your room key)

Overall, for someone like me (I just need a bed, shower, $1 Michelobs, and a spot close to the action) - it%26#39;s perfect.

That is a weird video. Although the rooms do look decent.

I like the casino, and the $1 beers in the casino are great, but I would never stay there. I%26#39;d rather watch for a better deal someone a little nicer. Bally%26#39;s is much nicer and can be cheap too.

I would have liked to see more of the room but I guess it was more of a backdrop for the laundry company ad. It does look clean but I%26#39;m still not sure it%26#39;s something I%26#39;d travel 3000 miles for. Bill%26#39;s rooms seem to have a bit more pizzazz for a similar rate. Others%26#39; mileage (no pun intended) may vary.

At least we can confirm that they do indeed change their sheets! ;)

    Storage Box

I%26#39;m looking for a place to rent a small storage box in Vegas.... something big enough to hold a computer and other smaller items

    Any ideas?

    Storage Box

I would ask your Hotel if they have such boxes first.

I would then check out the local post office for a small storage box.

    Storage Box

You will struggle here since 9/11 all of the saftey deposit boxes i have used in the hotels will not allow anything electrical and they will also only hold things for guests

You will struggle here since 9/11 all of the saftey deposit boxes i have used in the hotels will not allow anything electrical and they will also only hold things for guests

Let me see.. you cant put a potential explosive in a safety deposit box But its ok to put it in the room?

This makes a lot of sense.

Dont blame me its is what I was told at Luxor, NYNY and Excalibur.

I am looking for something long-term.... I visit Vegas a few times a year and would just like to keep crertain valuables there... so we%26#39;re talking about rneting for several months

I am looking for something long-term.... I visit Vegas a few times a year and would just like to keep crertain valuables there

I would then contact a bank and see if what sizes there security boxes are.

I take it that you are not looking for something like a Public Storage storage unit? Because there is a Public Storage on Tropicana just east of Maryland Parkway, near Crown %26amp; Anchor.

The smallest Public Storage storage unit would be about 5 ft by 5 ft. Is that too large for you?

    Craps help

Hi, I remember reading a post not too long ago and someone mentioned some good online sites for learning to play craps and I have done a search and can%26#39;t find it now...

Could anyone help with good sites or some tips on playing craps, will be visiting Vegas with my husband in September and really want to play, looks like a whole lot of fun. But I have never gambled in my life - don%26#39;t even now how to play the pokies (slots) so am going to take advantage of being in Vegas and hopefully learn.

    Thanks

    Craps help

Books have been written on craps so a 5 min answer is not going to help much..

    Tips

Find a table thats not to busy so the dealers can help you and tell them your a new player.

The game is not that hard to play just looks it and can be intimidating to new players.

Learn how to play smart and try not to make those bad bets on the table.

Learn the six basic odds and you already learned 80% of the game.

A few sites to get you started.

    Craps help

Great, thanks that was just what I was looking for.

Dice Man forgot the most important thing: Get in there and play and have FUN!!

And don%26#39;t say the word ';Se_en'; at the table. Don%26#39;t even think that word! And never even think of ordering a ';Se_en and Se_en'; at the craps table; drink rum and coke instead.

lol thanks Mike. I am really excited about getting in there and having a go. Only 107 days to go!!!

The last time I stayed at Ballys and MC they offered free lessons on how to play Craps. Not sure if that is still offered or not.

My best advice to learn how to play craps is to get in there. Stand next to one of the dealers. Play the minimum on the pass line with small odds behind after a point is hit. Watch learn and ask what%26#39;s happening if you need to. That%26#39;s how I learned!

    TC

I always play from the don%26#39;t so I%26#39;ll say ';Mickey Mantle'; or ';KJ'; (Kevin Johnson wore number 7 for the Phoenix Suns) or ';Elway';. I say it quietly but even if someone hears me 99% of the time they have no cluea why I am saying it.

I have been doing a little reading over the last couple of days and it it kind of making sense to me, I understand the pass line but the rest is still a little confusing :(

Dice Man was right. Read up and learn it first. Don%26#39;t jump in without knowing what you are doing. And don%26#39;t rely on the free lessons to learn the game.

Read it first on wizardofodds or the other sites Dice Man referred you to. Because the dealers at the free lessons DO NOT tell you which bets have huge house edges, and which bets have smaller house edges. The dealers teach you how to bet, not which bets are good.

AFTER you have learned which bets are good, THEN take the free lesson to learn how to actually make the bets you want to bet and to get accustomed to the table, the layout, the feel of the dice.

WARNING: Female shooters, do NOT throw the dice even once at a free lesson. Don%26#39;t even touch the dice. A very important craps superstition is that a female virgin shooter will have a good roll on her first time. so don%26#39;t lose your virginity at the lesson. Save it -- not for marriage, but for when you (and the table) can win some money. Once it is lost, it is gone forever!! And let the rest of us know that it is your virgin roll. I bet on female virgins, even though it is just a superstition.

Remember, most of the people playing craps are NOT smart bettors. Following their advice might not be intelligent. The systems they will share might not (almost certainly won%26#39;t) make sense. So study the wizardofodds and learn what you want to do, without input from the people playing. Just because someone is a flashy player, talking all the slang and throwing money around the table does NOT mean that he/she is a smart player. Most of the time, that flashy player is making crappy bets with high house edges. The casino very carefully designs the table to encourage such bets, to maximize the casino%26#39;s profits.

So learn first from the books/wizard, then learn at the lesson, and then play and have fun and (we hope) win!

The ';best'; way to play, mathematically speaking, is to play the minimum amount on the Pass line that will enable you to play the largest amount on the Odds (behind the pass line bet). The Don%26#39;t Pass line technically has slightly better odds, but it%26#39;s more confusing for a new player to figure out in terms of making an odds bet, and you%26#39;re betting against the table, which might make it a lot more intimidating for a new player.

Wait for the puck on the table to say ';OFF';. Put the table minimum ($5, $10, whatever) on the Pass Line. Shooter will roll the dice. If it lands on 7 or 11, you automatically win. Don%26#39;t forget to pick up your winnings. If it lands on 2, 3, or 12, you automatically lose. Time to put more money down. If it lands on one of the six big numbers that%26#39;s printed on the edge of each side of the table (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), that will be the ';point';. You can now increase your bet if you%26#39;d like (and it%26#39;s beneficial to you to do so) by placing more money BEHIND your Pass line bet. This is called an ';odds bet';, and it pays better than even money on a win. If the shooter rolls that same number again, you%26#39;ll win. If the shooter rolls a 7, you%26#39;ll lose. Play continues until the shooter either rolls that same number (in case you forget what number it was, the puck will say ';ON'; and it%26#39;ll be sitting on that number), or rolls a 7 (and everyone loses their pass line and odds bets).

Another good bet to make in terms of the house edge is ';placing the 6'; or ';placing the 8';. This just means that you%26#39;re betting money on the 6 or the 8. Put the chips down and tell the dealer what you want to do. Both of these bets pay back at 6:5, so for every $5 you bet, you%26#39;ll be winning $6. The bet stays up until the 7 is rolled, or until you take it down yourself (just ask the dealer to take down your bet).

In general the more ';exciting'; and ';fun'; the bet, the worse the house edge will be. For example, many people will play a dollar or so on the center bets (hardways, etc). These bets, while having a higher house edge, pay much more when they do win. For example, you might hear someone play a ';hard six';. This means they%26#39;re betting that a 6 will be rolled the ';hard way';, which is 3+3, rather than the ';easy way';, which would be either 5+1, 1+5, 4+2, or 2+4. If an ';easy six'; is rolled, or a 7 is rolled, the bet loses. If a ';hard six'; is rolled, the bet wins. As you can see, the odds are very much against this happening, but if it does, it pays out at 9:1 (so a $5 bet would pay $45).

  • First Timer Trip Report and Observations

Not a great writer but wanted to contribute something as a thanks for all the help in planning our first Las Vegas trip. We flew with West jet out of Toronto landed around 10:40 Pm. I always like to fly West Jet fairly roomy and fun service. Our landing approach was from North to South and were sitting on right side of plane. Wow what a show all the lights of the strip were amazing to see.Definately enough to wake you up after 4:45 hours of flying. We landed got our bags and was off to rental car facility really fast. We reserved with Alamo Using Contract I.D. 7012298 quoted rate was $122.09 for the week. Kiosks were not working so we had to line up to go to the counters. Great I thought now I will be asked about the code. Not a word, signed the contract and went up to the garage real fast with no looking back. There were no Economy cars left so they told us to take a mini van. ';I think I got a good deal!'; The funny thing with the mini van was when we seen it the next day in the sunlight there were scratches and some dents on both doors, so our first stop was back to the car rental place. Was worried we would have a problem. No problem lady at the desk was very helpful, she entered the scratches and dents in her computer, so that it would not become our problem. Oh Yea she took $15 off for all our troubles..(cool) We arrived at the Signature just before 12 am and were tired and hungry. No problems checking in and we were reminded of the $20 dollar per day resort fee. Our room was a one bedroom suite on the 37th floor, the view from the balcony and bedroom was crazy. The room itself was amazing considering how much we paid for it. I knew with our room and the car rental our vacation was off to a great start. Around 1am we went to find something to eat. I got a chance to see if it was really as far to MGM as some people have made it out to be. Give me a break. Not far at all and if you walked on the moving belts it took about 5 minutes. we later we actually timed it to the casino entrance and that was 13 minutes. We found a little food court with a McDonalds and got something to eat. At the counter there was a tip jar and the cashier was selling beverages for $1, not ringing them in and putting the dollar in his tip jar. We had a good laugh about this. I held two dollers over the tip jar and said ';Big Mac'; guess what I got a $2 Big Mac. Never did see him again. Bet he made alot of money that night. After eating we went back to our room to get some sleep. The resort fee and walk to MGM this amazes me that people can post a trip review but cannot research the hotel they want to stay in. How can this be a surprise ? It%26#39;s mentioned everywhere . If they did their research and choose this hotel then complaining seems kinda silly. Just like that poster who ragged on the Monte Carlo, but failed to inform management of the problems. Will post more of our trip tomorrow if anyone is interested.

First Timer Trip Report and Observations

I am enjoying your report, but could we have some paragraphs please? It really makes it a lot easier to read.

First Timer Trip Report and Observations

Enjoying your trip report, keep going!!

    Yeah paragraphs are your friend.

Hey linnytoons, great TR so far, we are staying at the Signature in September so can%26#39;t wait to hear a bit more about the hotel and location.

Keep it coming. Anxiously awaiting more.

Loved the McDonalds incident but eventually he%26#39;ll get caught.

Thanks for the review so far and I look forward to more. We are staying there beginning June 1. Julie

Loving your report!!! It%26#39;s always fun to see the perceptions of a first time visitor. But I will third the request for paragraphs. My old eyes can%26#39;t read it when it is all jammed together!

Good job on the start of your trip report, glad to hear you had no problems using the Alamo code(we are using it on a car next month), looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip...

Of course more more... but yes please paragraphs.

    Going To Vegas Alone

OK, My hubby surprised me with a trip to Vegas and it%26#39;s to go all by myself! I%26#39;m a bit nervous about doing just about EVERYTHING on my own...I know, sad! Should I buck it up, or is there a place anyone recommends to connect with others to meet up there....innocently of course! I%26#39;m going June 11 for the full weekend. Any suggestions would be great!

    Going To Vegas Alone

No need to worry about a thing. I%26#39;ve made numerous solo trips to Vegas and invariably had a blast. Next weekend I%26#39;ll be at a wedding in LV with my wife. She%26#39;s heading home after a couple of nights leaving me to have another three nights. She gets a rest from me and knows I%26#39;ll be having fun!

I can%26#39;t really suggest one place to hang out. There%26#39;s literally hundreds of options where you can meet people and have a good time and you really won%26#39;t have too much trouble finding them. One thing you may want to do is look through this forum to see if any M%26amp;Gs (meet %26amp; greets) are taking place or post your dates and ask. These are where forum members in Vegas at the same time get together.

    Going To Vegas Alone

I too travel to Vegas alone frequently! Do whatever you like, go wherever you want! This includes dining too! It%26#39;s a great city for the solo traveler, and there is literally nothing you should feel hesitant about doing alone. I have seen shows, and dined in top tier restaurants by myself and found it to be a thoroughly indulgent and enjoyable experience.

    Have a blast!

im lookin forward to my first trip solo..have fun!

    check (search for?)

    ';TR - Palazzo 5/5-11, a M%26amp;G and the Venetian scent REVEALED!';

within this forum. she just returned from a solo trip.

shoot her a line - read what she had to say...

enjoy! will be there the week after your week end (with son -21st bday trip)

LAS is indeed a good place for a solo traveller. Been there once a few years back with a group of firefighters but we all went our own way in Vegas and it was even fun for a solotraveller. Went to the Céline Dion show, went to a Cirque du Soleil show, ate in different restaurant all by myself and you can be sure that there are plenty of other solotravellers arround ;)

Within 3 weeks I%26#39;ll heading back to Vegas for a short trip also on my own. 90% of my travels I do on my own and I like it very much. Don%26#39;t care if it%26#39;s London, Paris, Brussels, Montréal, New York or Vegas... Plenty to do if you are alone ;)

Don%26#39;t worry, you will have a nice time ;)

I%26#39;ve gone to LV solo and with friends. Solo can be more fun because you can do whatever you want on a whim - no checking with the other person to see what they want to do. And you can change your mind without anyone complaining.

If you feel uncomfortable eating alone, you can just sit at the bar at most restaurants. Some people have said that they feel solo diners don%26#39;t get a lot of attention from the waitstaff, but I find the opposite to be true.

You will have no problem walking around alone, just keep an eye out like you would anywhere else you go.

    Have a great trip!

I have gone to Vegas alone a bunch of times and had a great time. I live in New Hampshire so driving to Vegas isn%26#39;t an option and my girlfriend WILL NOT FLY ever again. What ever phobia that%26#39;s called, that%26#39;s what she has. We%26#39;ve flown to Vegas before, but she won%26#39;t do it anymore. So if I can%26#39;t get any friends to go, I have no problem going solo. I have never once felt out of place and as another poster said, there are just too many things to do to mention. Go and have a great time!

Buck it up. When are you going? Where are you staying? I%26#39;m sure people from this forum will be there and maybe you%26#39;ll meet a new friend.

You%26#39;ll have a great time, don%26#39;t worry! I%26#39;ve done it by myself and with various sized groups and while the tone of the trips are different, they%26#39;ve all been great.

It is a wonderfully accommodating city for the single traveler; you%26#39;re not out of place anywhere as a single; shows, restaurants, pool, casino, etc.

Not looking to stir up trouble, but why is your husband looking to get rid of you for that weekend? (J/K) ;-)

I%26#39;m a single woman, and I did a week solo there in March. Honestly, I liked it better than some other trips I%26#39;ve gone with people. I HIGHLY recommend doing a M%26amp;G as the earlier poster suggested - I did, and we wound up getting together a few times over the course of the trip, which was good for company.

Eat at the bar if you feel uncomforatble at a table alone, as the earlier poster suggested - you%26#39;ll meet lots of people. The pool is easy to do alone (really, you read or sleep anyway) and gambling is too. You%26#39;ll have a good time.

    Motel 6

Looking really cheap but decent place to stay in Carson City? The Motel 6 on main drag is the nicest cheap place, clean and roomy, pool ';in season,'; and convenient location. Be prepared however as they don%26#39;t provide shampoo just soap. The sheets are old and had some small holes. There are some smoking rooms, and some rooms have wi-fi access for additional charge of $3 a day. Good place for people on a budget.

    Guest List at Lavo

OK, I emailed Lavo to get on their ';guest list'; (for the club portion). They replied and told me that I%26#39;m on it, they gave me info on the cover charge, and told me to be there by midnight. OK then...

Then I started to wonder, what the heck is the ';guest list'; even getting me? No break on cover and probably no break on lines.

We are having dinner there too though. Hmmmm...

Does anyone know what this ';Guest List'; does? Or is it basically ';good for nothing';?

    Thanks!

    Guest List at Lavo

you should try this service, it%26#39;s all free, not sure how they make money, but hey their loss is my gain!

Just saw Kahunaville as I clicked send. Give details!!! We%26#39;re going to eat there on the 30th!

Went to work and my buddy the other bartender thought i would be back tomm so another day off awesome my luck continues. Ok lets roll here

Little about the crew Myself(46),DW(?),Daughter(22),Birthday Daughter(21) and her boyfriend (23)

Flew out of NY(JFK) Wed nite US Air. They suck ,i had not flown with them since last April. No movies, pillows , blankets, snacks(not even to buy) on the plus side we did land on time. Met at baggage by Presidental limo no problems there and off to the Mirage.

Ck in was quick and we dropped off bags in our 2 rooms didn%26#39;t ask or pay for a view and got just that roof top view on the 20th floor mountains in the background. We only payed 350 for each room 70 a nite over a weekend can%26#39;t beat that.

We were on the floor by 10:00 pm let the party begin . The 2 Vegas Virgins completely just overwhelmed and blown away just from the cruise down the strip. We started at Goldfish slipped the CW a 20 as she delivered our 1st round and we never had empty glasses . The fish were paying off tonight everyone was up anywhere from 50 to 300 bucks after 2 hours and very buzzed.

Next up was Monopoly one of my favorites and i killed it this night (up up and away) with jackpots after bonus rounds of 250,550 and 750 dumped 150 in to start playing 1.50 a pull. By now it was 2AM and all were drunk and starving.

Off to Carnegie Deli Woody Allens for all my god what a sandwich enough for 10 people. They were so good and i would return for a sandwich for the plane ride home. These were the best sandwiches just perfect my mouth is watering just writing this.Bill came 128.00 before tip. Tossed the waiter 40 bucks and back to the floor.

Me off to BJ the rest back to goldfish. One reason for staying at the Mirage was my love for BJ. Hit the 25.00 table about 3AM was up and down over the next 3 hours cashed out at 6AM up 150.00.Best rules and great dealers had a blast.Headed up to room quick shower grabbed the wife and hit the pool line up.

Slept for 5 hours at the pool and was ready to start all over again.

PS Lowerance 1st cocktail was LIIT and toasted to you by all. I credit this for our 1st day luck.

    Day 2 to follow

Awesome start!! Boy, you all know how to party!!

    S;-)

Loving it, keep it coming . . .

    Day 2

Got the crew together with a 1:00 pm rally to hit the strip and fully amerce the vegas virgins to sin city in all its glory. Hit the Venentian,Palazzo,Wynn and Encore. This was my 1st time in the Encore and i found it to be real nice but not blown away. Really can%26#39;t judge the place on a 30min visit. Will either stay here or Wynn on our next trip at the end of the summer when its just me and the wife.We all pumped in 20.00 at each place and did the 10min rule or double your money and cash out, just wanted Sandy and Steve to know we visited .

Next we hit O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s , Flamingo,Harrah%26#39;s(Had a couple cocktails at Carnival Court and some free shots as Wonderboogie kept the party rolling. I really love this joint and is about the only thing i like about any HET property. It was 5:30 now so back to Mirage for shower and 7:00 pick up with Limo for Casa Di Amore.

Casa Di Amore: Limo right on time Johnny driving as usual. This was our 4th trip here (we take the kids for there 21st bday and this was the 4th one in a row we have 7 so 3 more trips to make)I know the food here is not gourmet but the place does have a certain feel . We just really enjoy the music and they make a big deal out of the whole bday thing.I have to say the food this time was the best it has ever been. We had Calamari and Yummy Double wrapped shrimp for starters. Kids all had chix parms wife had porkchops with peppers and vinager and myself the Osso Buco all very very good. They brought out a few comped desserts and the whole place sang happy bday to my little girl. I had forgotten to request Brad as our waiter so we had Tony who did a very nice job and Brad came by to visit a few times. its really nice that they remember you. its also nice they have 1/2 orders on the entrees so the girls went that route. Tab with a few cocktails came to 215.00 so 270.00 out the door and ready to party. Johnny dropped us off a 20 spot each way and into the Mirage to begin another assault on the casino.

Me and the wife hit LIR the kids went accross the street to the V they wanted to play WOZ and Star trek neither of which the Mirage has.

LIR was not so good to Me i dropped about 300 in hour but wife was up 200 so net loss of 100 so not so bad. Next we moved to BJ.

Wife does not feel comfortable playing at 25min table so we hit a 15min table rules not as good but this was hang with wife night. we played couple hours and both cashed out up 20 bucks as the kids returned from there adventure .

The kids said they had fun with WOZ and Star Trek and won a few bucks with daughters BF winning 185.00 on WOZ. They said in 3 hours of playing not one CW they ended up buying beers at a bar. they were not happy about this and vowed they will never return there nice job Sandy and staff.

It was 2AM now so we decided to blitz the Goldfish and then call it a night. Flushed 200 in like 20 min and called it a night. I have to say the cocktail service at the Mirage was wonderful we never had a problem no matter time of day or night. I do reward good service so that may have had something to do with it. Day 3 next

Awesome report ...so far.. can%26#39;t wait to hear more..

    cheap happy hour? club attire?

Hi all... headed to Vegas next week and am looking for any cheapy spots for a happy hour (or two) to get the night started?

Also, what is attire for the hot club scene???

    cheap happy hour? club attire?

hot club scene = high casual

    cheap happy hour? club attire?

Not sure about the happy hour thing, but dress up. When in doubt, over dress as opposed to under dress. I would skip jeans. Women, wear a hot dress. Dudes, dress slacks, good shoes, and a nice long sleeve shirt.

No need to wear dress slacks (but men will have them on). A nice pair of jeans, button up dress shirt and a sharp pair of leather shoes and you will fit right in.

I can%26#39;t vouch for these because I haven%26#39;t actually tried them yet, but here are a few of the happy hours that my friends and I plan on trying out while we%26#39;re there next week.

    Espee%26#39;s Gourmet Tamales

Daily from 4-6 pm. 2 for 1 Margaritas; 2 for 1 Puffed Tacos; 50% off Fiesta Nachos

    Moxie Java Bistro Cafe

Daily 3-6pm - Buy one get one free on all drinks

    Musashi Japanese Steakhouse

    Monday - Thursday 12am-4am - Food Specials

    Everyday 5pm-7pm and 12am-4am 2-1 cocktails

Late night Teppan Special same as lunch menu

Like someone else said, when in doubt dress up. I always wear a hot dress and heels. I never wear jeans to a club.

Happy hours, try: Forefly or Paradise Cantina, both across from Hard Rock. Blue Martini at Town Square. Charlie Palmers at Four Seasons has a great happy hour going right now.

Was at XS and Tryst last weekend. ALL the ladies were in dresses, NICE cocktail dresses. Did not see one lady in pants. Most all men were in dress pants. If you are a guy in jeans you better have a table reserved or know someone.

Guys in slacks at XS? I dont think thats a necessary requirement at all. Infact the last few times I was there, there was maybe 1 out of 40 guys in slacks. Slacks to the club is kind of like an old school thing. For dinner I might understand. I got let in wearing my Tru Religon jeans last time around.

Before heading out to the clubs, my friend and I always make a stop at Casino Royale. They have $1 Michelob bottles and $1 Margaritas. It always starts the night off right. :)

    Have fun

Girls should never wear jeans/pants/khakis at all to clubs. Skirts/dresses only.

Rehab pool party has a strict 2 piece bikini policy as well. Ladies can%26#39;t even go in with a wrap or some shorts. Which is good I suppose :)

royale11: I am glad that someone else posted that you do not need to have slacks on at the clubs in Vegas. I think some people think of their dad%26#39;s ratty old Levis when someone mention jeans. As you point out a nice high end or high look-a-like pair of jeans will be just fine.
