Ariport Check-In

We have booked a break at the Flamingo Hotel in August. Does anyone know if you can check in at the airport for this hotel......or just at the Hotel itself.

Thanks Mick

Ariport Check-In

Harrahs properties no longer have airport check-in. Why, I don%26#39;t know.

Ariport Check-In

A couple of years ago you could, not anymore . I think MGM is the only casino offering this (it%26#39;s the only one I saw).

Thanks for quick replies.....looks like i will have to join the enourmous lines at the hotel!!

Upcoming Restaurant Trip Plan: Thoughts or suggestions?

Here is a run-down of the places I%26#39;m thinking about eating on a June work-week trip. Please offer any alternatives or thoughts on each. This forum has helped me make may selections and I%26#39;d love to share it with you all!

Monday: Dinner at Dos Caminos at Palazzo

Tuesday: Lunch at Table 10 at Palazzo

Dinner at Tao at Venetian

Night out at Lavo

Wednesday: Breakfast Buffet at Main Street Casino

downtown

Late lunch/Happy Hour at Mandalay Bay

(Rumjungle or Border Grill, followed by

drinks at Mix Lounge)

Dinner at Burger Bar at MB

Drinks at Fontana Bar at Bellagio

Very late night snack/dessert at Grand

Lux Cafe at Venetian

Thursday: Lunch at Enoteca San Marco at Venetian

Happy Hour suggestions at Venetian?

Dinner at Delmonico at Venetian

Nightout at Tao

Friday: Lunch at Mesa Grill at CP

Dinner at Stripburger

Can you tell I%26#39;m looking forward to eating? I don%26#39;t have any meals at MGM, Ballagio, or Wynn. Is there anything I%26#39;m missing out on?

Upcoming Restaurant Trip Plan: Thoughts or suggestions?

You%26#39;re always going to miss out on something. That is why we keep going back. You have a good plan but I have more fun not adhering to a strict schedule.

Upcoming Restaurant Trip Plan: Thoughts or suggestions?

Not sure why you wouldn%26#39;t have lunch at Burger Bar then happy hour/dinner at Rumjungle then Mix - I%26#39;m not sure Rumjungle is open for lunch.

I prefer Burger Brasserie at Paris to Burger Bar at MB, myself.

Thanks for the quick suggestions. I%26#39;m guessing there will be some ventures away from this schedule, but it is how I mapped it out in my head to try to fit as much in as possible.

I%26#39;ve put up posts to ask about some of the happy hour specials I%26#39;ve seen at MB, but didn%26#39;t get much in the way of feedback on them. Is there a good time to go to Mix? I%26#39;d like to check it out, but avoid the $25 cover that kicks-in later in the evening.

Mix opens at 5pm. I get there about 5:30 or so. It%26#39;s very mellow when it%26#39;s early.

Downtown is more fun at night. See, you can%26#39;t do it all in one trip.

Had dinner at Mesa Grill in January and it was FABULOUS! Enjoy!

Loved Delmonico and Burger Bar as well. The pork chops at Delmonico are awesome and my son says the ribeye he had there is the best steak he has ever eaten.(He has had it twice)

Its funny you should mention that. I ate at Delmonico almost 10 years ago and I still consider the filet I ate the best steak I ever had. For a while, I considered trying someplace new like SW, but my GF is a steak lover and I figured it would be crazy not to take her to the place I had my favorite of all-time.

Snidley, I love downtown, but the GF want to hit the strip up this trip. I plan on spending my mornings playing downtown and hitting up a bargain breakfast buffets.

Oh ok, I just assumed you were Vegas virgin.

Have fun!

deciding on hotel

Mirage - deluxe room

Paris - Deluxe room

Caesars - Grand Tower

Flamingo - Go Room

All around the same price in my package - which one would you choose. I have stayed in a GO room before and really had a great time but I know they are hit and miss from reviews. Do I chance a different hotel??

deciding on hotel

Mirage or Paris

(I don%26#39;t have Ceasars expereince so can%26#39;t help there)

deciding on hotel

I%26#39;ve not stayed at the other hotels listed, but we%26#39;ve stayed at Paris twice and loved it both times.

My choice would be the Mirage......standard rooms were just redone.

:)

Haven%26#39;t stayed at Mirage, but love the look of their new fancy pants deluxe rooms (would want to be guaranteed the newly remodeled ones, not sure if there are some that haven%26#39;t been redone). Other than that I haven%26#39;t jumped toward Paris yet, but really dig the Flamingo GO rooms. The resort itself may not have as many amenities (good dining) as Mirage, but I like the rooms, the location, the vibe, and the pink.

I have not heard that the GO rooms at Flamingo are hit and miss but for sure the regular rooms are.

I have stayed at Flamingo (GO room) and Paris. I have no desire to stay at Caesars so for me the answer would be the Mirage.

When all offers are pretty much equal I like to choose a new hotel to try. I think which ever you choose it should be somewhere you have yet to stay. IMO

I haven%26#39;t stayed at Paris, Caesars, or Flamingo but I have stayed at Mirage. It now looks like housekeeping is either hit or miss. Our experience was a miss. Many other people have had positive experiences with housekeeping. But websites like vegastripping have also just said again that the housekeeping was not up to par.

The rooms have been remodeled and there are many new things which you will probably like, like the iHome, special plug in ports, convenient plug ins at the tables, and more.

If you are interested more about our experience, I wrote about our experience and also uploaded photos onto my blog. The link is here:

…blogspot.com/2009/…mirage-part-2-rooms.html

You will have a very different experience at each of these locations.

My personal fav from your list is Caesars. The place is HUGE- The room was very luxe! PLUS you have direct access to the Forum Shoppes- if that is a draw.

The Paris is nice, but I found the beds were too hard. And the pool is nothing to write home about.

Speaking of pools, both Flamingo and Mirage have about the best on the strip: can you say ';tropical paradise';? However, the Mirage casino floor beats Flamingo HANDS DOWN.

  • Newbie to Wendover

Going to Wendover this month out of Bellingham.

    Just wondering about the following:

Apparently we get coupons when checking in? Anything great?

Any recommendations on where to eat/specials?

What kind of shopping is there? Will the shuttles take to there?

Worth renting a car and driving into Salt Lake City? Or is there a shuttle?

    Any advice, greatly appreciated.

    Newbie to Wendover

not many locals here to answer.

We have been to Wendover several times.

We are going this month too, but by Tour Bus.

Town only has a small shopping area, about 6 block walk from Rainbow or Peppermill.

I go answer Re: shuttles, they will take you there(tip).

    When are you going?

    Joy

    Newbie to Wendover

We fly out Wed. May 20th.

Thanks for the info. We are praying for warm weather.

We will be there on May 25th.for 4 nights.

It will be warm weather... take you swim suites,if you are staying at Rainbow of Montego Bay.?

    cheers

Staying at the Montego Bay. Looking forward to it.

    The outdoor pool opens today.

Have fun. MB is the best of the 3 Peppermill%26#39;s. there are only 2 other casinos. Nugget across from MB and I think the Red Garter is still open?

I should mention that I was in Wendover over Easter and it was VERY slow....that may account for our ride to and from the golf course on the shuttle. I think they%26#39;d probably take you, but you may have to be patient. I didn%26#39;t see any shopping worth the trip, really.

As for coupons, you get a couple free drinks, a few buy one entree get the second free at the steakhouses, 20% off at the gift shop, and a few gambling ones that I didn%26#39;t understand b/c I don%26#39;t know squat about gambling. There may have been a small discount at the spa at the Rainbow, too.

The best food I had was at the Rainbow Steakhouse. It%26#39;s not cheap, but the quality was far superior to anything else at the Peppermill Casinos. The service was also superb. I imagine the Bimini Steakhouse at Montego Bay is similar.

For less fancy meals, I%26#39;d go across the street to the Nugget. Trino%26#39;s Tacos is like a food court stand, but it was also excellent. The restaurant across the casino floor by the hotel courtyard was also pretty good.

My food recommendations are Trino%26#39;s and a steakhouse...they%26#39;re wayyyy better than anything else I had.

There%26#39;s no shuttle to SLC, but if you search this forum you can find the name of a used car dealer that rents (S %26amp; R?). It%26#39;s in Utah, on the same side of the street as Montego Bay

The Red Garter is open, but it seemed like it was hurting while we were there. Although that could be the timing, like I said. There was a nice Craps dealer who was very patient with one of my friends (also a novice gambler)

    thanks Lico, for you info.

Did you do a Tour Bus trip?or Air?

We know Wendover is Hurting along with Reno/Vegas.

    cheers,Joy

We flew down. It was the first time for Peppermil or whoever to fly out of Canada. They did one out of Calgary and one out of Edmonton. We went in April and there was supposed to be a trip in May, as well. that one got cancelled, as far as I know.

They told us on the flight back that they would be flying out of Canada again, but they needed to work out a few things before they came back. They said we should look into driving into the States and flying from there.

The scuttlebut was that they didn%26#39;t have all their ducks in a row as far as fees and taxes, and we got away without paying some things we should have up here.

Question about venetian VP bars + 'free' drinks

Short version of the question: anyone play the VP bars at the venetian lately? were they comping drinks if you put in a $20 and were betting the minimum?

Longer version for those who like to read:

I just returned from vegas after taking a year off and was very disappointed with the state of video poker bars and their %26#39;free%26#39; drinks. In the past I%26#39;ve always thrown a $20 in and played 25 cents, collecting comped drinks and tipping each time. this time around, not so easy. At PH and ceasars I was told to play max credits for a drink (although PH seemed to depend on what bartender you talked to). I didnt try elsewhere due to frustration/time constraints. The VP bars were always my favorite place to start a night, and I%26#39;d be crushed to hear that the venetian, my favorite casino, is getting cheap like the other properties on the strip. I%26#39;m going back in another month and would appreciate any updates.

Question about venetian VP bars + 'free' drinks

Venetian and Palazzo require you to be playing 3 coins in for comped drinks, this is the official policy but you may get away with less if you are tipping. If you don%26#39;t want to play 3/hand in VP, they have a slot option, just touch ';other games'; I think, and it is quarters, so you can just play 75 cents for comped drinks on that screen. They had yummy wasabi nuts and black olives for munchies and we really enjoyed time spent at the palazzo%26#39;s VP bars, still live music evenings at the ';jungle'; looking one closest to the Jersey Boys theatre

Question about venetian VP bars + 'free' drinks

I was in the VP bar at the sportsbook at V in February and the machines are now 1.00, not 25 cents, as were the machines inside La Scena. Oculus was 1.00 as well. I am going back in 2 weeks and will check again, but I doubt they have gone back to 25 cents. I have always had my drinks comped in there, even if not playing max credits.

All of the VP and Video blackjack I saw was 1.00, but the ones that had the ';other games'; option at all 3 in Palazzo, have regular slots for a quarter a credit. I did not check venetian, but all 3 Palazzo bars had the other screen with quarter slots about 4 weeks ago.

  • What type of quilt do you like
  • Cheap rooms at the IP

    Code PITF99

Looks like 3 nights for $99 plus a coupon book included. Nice deal for someone looking for a cheap clean place to stay. I personally hate the Casino here but this is a great deal and you cant beat the location.

    S ;-)

    Cheap rooms at the IP

Be cautious however, if it is for a Capri Room. These rooms in a seperate motel-like building in back of the property. It is sandwhiched between the hotel and parking garage. It is like staying in a basement room.

    Cheap rooms at the IP

    Michael-

You%26#39;re right!! I didnt think about that until after I posted this!! Capri rooms are nasty little dungeons.

    S;-)

Deluxe room was clean when I got one last year. Or the year before.... der brain freeze...

But Capri makes the rooms sound so tropical and relaxing... lol

The non-capri rooms on the inside are better but there are still several loud rooms throughout IP. If you stay up and out until 3:00 AM you%26#39;ll be fine and noise won%26#39;t be much of an issue. If you are early to bed i.e.-midnight or earlier then don%26#39;t take this offer.

IP in general is a nasty dungeon. IP is a DUMP.

IP is not a dump.. omg... NO it%26#39;s not fancy, but it is a clean and basic hotel. It doesn%26#39;t pretend to be anything it isn%26#39;t either. I have stayed there twice and BOTh times I was very happy with my very clean room, the location is kick butt and I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to stay there again. I have never stayed in the Capri rooms though.....

    Agreed with Pook.

People on here that call the IP a dump have never seen some truly scary hotels.....

My nextdoor neighbor (and fellow Vegas junkie) does a ';guys'; trip every year and always stays at the IP- He says that they get these rooms that open to the pool area and they always have a great time when they go. I think if your looking to go to LV and are on a tight budget (most of us are) and dont have the luxury of comped rooms, this is a great deal. With the exception of the Capri Rooms, I think that there are a few other places that truly do qualify for ';dump'; status before the IP does.

%26#39;Its a DUMP%26#39; is just Vegasguys standard answer to anything to do with IP. Maybe he never stayed there. Maybe he has high standards (although I don%26#39;t really think so as he stays at Mirage and MGM mainly).

Read the reviews - IP does pretty ok.

    Are HET properties that bad?

I have been to Vegas more time than I can count and I am surprsied about some of the comments about HET properties. I am a Ballys girl at heart but have mostly stayed at HET properties over the years. I havent been to Vegas since last year but I am wondering should I look at staying/gambling at other properties.

    Are HET properties that bad?

If Ballys (a HET property) works for you, then stick with it. Their properties run the spectrum. You can get anything from a Capri room at IP to the Augustus Tower at Caesars. All hotels have been experiencing some cut backs in staff due to the economy, but hardly a reason to run away from all HET casinos. I would not surrender years of loyalty (and whatever comps you get) based on a few reviews.

    Are HET properties that bad?

No, if they work for you, don%26#39;t feel pressured to change. There are people who don%26#39;t like the gaming rules or are just happier at other places but they aren%26#39;t you and copying them won%26#39;t necessarily make you happier. If there is a another hotel that you are curious about, sure, try it, but don%26#39;t switch chains because of other people.

Some HET properties are dumps and some are great.

    Nothing wrong with Bally%26#39;s.

It all depends on your interests. Harrahs, MGM, Wynn or V all have something diffrent.

I find it easier to get free rooms and meals @ HET hotels but I also enjoy staying at Mandalay, MGM or Mirage in the summers just for the pools.

If they are good to you return the favor. IP gets the bad rap but it does have clean rooms and always can eat anywhere. But each corporation have one lower tier hotel.

HET has prime mid strip locations and offer comfortable rooms. CP if the flagship that compete with the best. Newer is not always better.

I find nothing wrong with HET properties.

Absolutely not. HET properties are fine.

    Let me get this straight...

You frequent Vegas, you stay at HET properties, you enjoy yourself, have a good time, and are happy with the experience. But now that a lot of people here are complaining, your questioning your own satisfaction?

I like the feedback I get here. But I will always take my own first hand experience over anyone else%26#39;s account of their experience!

Thanks for the replies. I have enjoyed reading this forum and thought I would ask the question.

Personally I would stay no where else. HET has always taken care of me. Anytime I need a room I go online and am comped 5 nights. Anytime holiday or not. Between MIL and myself we always have a week comped. Besides I love Paris and that is my home away from home. If it works for you don%26#39;t try to fix it.....

I will not gamble at a HET property because of their lousy table game rules. But their hotels are just fine as far as I know.

    Golden Gate Hotel Questions

Anyone have an opinion on the Golden Gate Hotel at 1 Freemont St? Also does the Deuce bus stop at that hotel? I know it%26#39;s at the of the Freemont Experience, but, is it near all the action or would we have to walk quite a ways to cheap food and casinos other than what is in the hotel?

    Thanks :)

    Golden Gate Hotel Questions

The Golden Gate is at the Plaza end of Fremont Street. It is in the middle of everything. Well, not in the middle but you can walk the entire Fremont street experience in 10 minutes. That is the nice thing about down town. It is all very close. The GG has a great diner. Good prices and very good food. The GG has a small casino but there are many others with in a 2 minute walk.

    Good luck and enjoy,

    Kevin

    Golden Gate Hotel Questions

I love the Golden Gate!! Historicaly its the oldest hotel in Las Vegas. Its small and has a great diner and deli in the back that serves up a very tasty shrimp cocktail for 99 cents( if you have a players card!). They have the biggest craps table I have ever seen. I have never stayed there because I have read that the rooms are tiny and the bathrooms even smaller. But I have read where others have stayed there and liked it fine. It is however, rumored to be haunted though.

Are you looking to stay there or just visit?

As far as I know, the Deuce does not stop there but stops at the corner of Fremont and Las Vegas Blvd. The Golden Gate is at the other end of Fremont but the walk isn%26#39;t bad at all. You will see about 8 hotel/casinos along the way with some shops and restaurants in between. The Golden Gate is small but worth the visit for sure especially for the cheap shrimp cocktails at the Deli and the good food at the Bay City Diner. They also have craps and blackjack.

Heres a link that may give you some more info-

    www.cheapovegas.com/vegas_casino_full.php…

    I hope it works!!

    S;-)

acsmacan... they have redone the Golden Gate rooms, and I believe they are now nice enough and large enough rooms on or above the level of the Fitz or Binions... maybe more like 4Queens or Fremont. They have two bed double bed rooms, and even 2 bed queen bed rooms now. I have heard that if you go to bed early or are a light sleeper, the rooms are quite noisy till the wee hours of the morning.

    sheila

Thanks for the quick replies :)

My 21 y/o daughter and I are planning a trip to Vegas on the cheap, cheap, cheap. Found the Golden Gate and since we don%26#39;t want luxury, just somewhere clean, safe, and close to the Deuce thought is might work.

The GG is perfect for a nostalgic and low key Vegas romp. You will be perfectly safe and comfy there. Please read some reviews if you haven%26#39;t already.

    …tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g45963-d91826-…

p.s. can%26#39;t help with The Deuce question but i know it must be close.

    the ghosts wont bite.

I stayed there last year. The room was very small and way outdated. They have since remodeled all the rooms and they are nice. I liked that the windows opened all the way. When I went to bed at night, I could hear the slot machines through the ducts that were above the bed. Just don%26#39;t stay on the 2nd floor. I swear that floor is haunted!

    Destination-

When are you planning to travel? If you are going on Sun- Thrus trip, I believe that you can get a 2-4-1 coupon room deal thru the ACG book!! The Las Vegas Advisor%26#39;s Member rewards book also has a similar coupon for a room and a 2-4-1 for the diner as well. If your looking to save some $$ both of these books are a must have.

    S;-)

Thanks. I read the reviews and the majority seem to be positive if you aren%26#39;t looking for luxury.

We are going the 1st week in May and the rate for 5 nights including tax was around $110! Can%26#39;t get much cheaper than that so since it%26#39;s safe, we%26#39;ll book.

I%26#39;ve been to Vegas twice staying on the strip. My daughter went in Jan. and stayed in a time share. She got a free plane ticket for bumping off her flight so wants to take a trip with me, but, I%26#39;ve lost my job. While I have the time, there isn%26#39;t extra cash and she is a college student so we MUST do it on a shoe string.

restaurants near valley of fire, or red rock canyon?

planing a trip to red rock canyon and valley of fire from vegas, problaby 2 different days . can anyone tell me of any restaurants on the way to them or near them, don%26#39;t know whether to eat in vegas for stop elsewhere along the way ..

restaurants near valley of fire, or red rock canyon?

i am not aware of any restaurants near valley of fire, it is kind of off the freeway, out in the middle of nowhere.

for redrock, the closest would be the red rock casino on charleston at the western edge of las vegas.

i know there is a P.F. changs close to the casino, plus there are alot of others along charleston.

restaurants near valley of fire, or red rock canyon?

You could always go to the Red Rock Resort/Casino... it%26#39;s really close to the entrance to Red Rock Canyon, they have some great places to eat.

Also, if I remember correctly, there are some plazas and chain restaurants not too far from there as well.

If you head back towards Vegas you%26#39;re bound to run into a ton of stuff... you don%26#39;t have to go all the way to the Strip or anything though.

Pretty much any chain restaurant you can think of is right in that area of Charleston between Rainbow and the 215 beltway. Frm PF Changs, to Mimis to Claim Jumper, etc. Its pretty much the story of Vegas off strip. Chains, chains and more chains.

One non chain I like that is not too far away is Grape Street Cafe on W. Lake Mead/Buffalo.

  • Wasted Space at Hardrock - how far from MGM and questions?

    Hi

Planning my upcoming trip and would kinda like to goto Wasted Space at Hard Rock Hotel on a Thursday when they have a band as me and the missus love rock music and a good band.

    But I have questions.

    1. Is it walkable from MGM Grand?

    2. Any ideas on the cover charge?

    3. Whats the drink prices?

And finally, os it any good?

    Thanks

    Scott

Wasted Space at Hardrock - how far from MGM and questions?

    1. Its definitely a driving distance from MGM since Hardrock is located over on Paradise ave. You can take Koval (back side of MGM) to Hardrock.

    2. Hardrock is really sketchy on cover charges. I am always on the guestlist for their events, but simply because I don%26#39;t carry a NV ID card, they will charge me a cover. If you aren%26#39;t a local, you will end up paying like everyone else. There are no promo cards for HardRock as far as I know.

    3. Drink prices.. I paid $18 for goose/cranberry. If you substitute for a generic brand of vodka, I suppose it would run you about $12 at the regular price. Expect to pay $26-30 for 1 round of drinks for 2 people.

Wasted Space at Hardrock - how far from MGM and questions?

PS. There is one other way to get around cover charges at Hard Rock is by staying at the hotel.

You can walk it but it would take about 30mins and is roughly a mile and 1/2.

Cover varies but expect to pay $20 each. A Corona was $8 when I was there last.

    Great club

Make sure you check their calendar as well, if there is a more popular band booked I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;ll cost a bit more. Also, it%26#39;s not a big place either, the more popular bands will fill-up / sell out the place.

I%26#39;d take a taxi or drive, taxi ride shouldn%26#39;t be more than $8-$10 each way, well worth it if you%26#39;re planning on having a few.

    ';You can take Koval (back side of MGM) to Hardrock.';

Its actually Harmon that you%26#39;d take. Koval and PAradise run the same direction. Harmon and Trop run the same direction.

HR is on the corner of Harmon/Paradise.

Oh yes, it is Harmon.. good catch there!

ACTUALLY you walk down Koval (behind MGM) and turn RIGHT onto Harmon

Just the walk to Koval might wear you out- this is a SUPER cheap cab fare and worth the time saved

Yea bro.. just don%26#39;t even think about walking. Especially at night. Theres parts of that street where there is constant construction and the lighting is bad.

my 1st couple years of college at UNLV the Shark Club was the best club. It was on Harmon just east of The Strip. I lived at Paradise Bay club which is right next door to the HR, at the time the HR Cafe was there but not the hotel.

Anyway a friend of mine who also lived at PBC was woken up by some guy, when my friend figured out what was going on he realized he was on the sidewalk it was about 830am somewhere on HArmon between The Shark Club and The Hard Rock Cafe. He just passed out right there on the sidewalk walking home, which as you mention is not a great area, but its not horrible either. He got rolled, his watch was missing but he had his wallet.

Went to Wasted Space most recently in January and was a bit turned off by the unisex bathrooms - might just be me though!

  • ATV /Doom Buggie rental near Las Vegas

My family and i are going to Las Vegas at the end of this month.. we are looking for a place that we are able to rent ATVs and to drive around for a few hours...does anyone know of a good place?

ATV /Doom Buggie rental near Las Vegas

LOL, I don%26#39;t have the answer but I can already see someone getting hurt if you rent a ';Doom'; buggy, Lmaooo

ATV /Doom Buggie rental near Las Vegas

Agree; those Doom buggies can be tricky!

    LOL....***Dune** Buggy

Las Vegas ATV tours and ATV rentals - 702-558-7547. In case you want to do a tour or go alone.

sunbuggyfunrentals.com seems to be main company renting out dune buggies. We might give them a try, although at $400 for a 2-seater riding 90 minutes, it%26#39;s a little steep. If anyone knows a way to get discounts for them, it%26#39;d be appreciated :)

';Doom Buggy'; is what the ride cars are called at the Disneyland ';Haunted Mansion';.

    Check out

    http://www.vegasatvtours.com/

My DH and I have used them the past three years and are booked for Sat of Memorial Day weekend. We like to just rent them and explore ourselves for the day as opposed to a tour. They%26#39;ve always been helpful and good prices. Note: if not on a tour, you have to drive to the shop in Henderson and then follow them to the place where you%26#39;ll pick up the ATV and drop it off. From there you have a HUGE area to drive around. If on a tour, they%26#39;ll pick you up at your hotel.

If you rent on your own, bring water as there is not a place to stop once on the ATV%26#39;s that we have found anyways.

    Have fun.

Free Tickets to The Mentalist at PH

The show the Mentalist is making a move from Hooters to Planet Hollywood.

There are some show dates for the near future listed on www.goldstar.com for free tickets. You do pay a service fee but we saw the show at hooters and it was worth the time spent in the show room. (to us anyway)

If you are looking for cheap entertainment visit the website and see if your dates are offered.

Free Tickets to The Mentalist at PH

has this anything to do with the TV show?

Free Tickets to The Mentalist at PH

I%26#39;m not here to offend anybody but I saw this for free at Hooters and still left wanting my money back. I%26#39;m not that picky about shows or talent, heck, I love the Mac King Comedy show but this mentalist show is awful.

Hey the forum is about opinions there is no offense taken. There are people who hate the CDS shoes and ';don%26#39;t get it'; and one of my fav people here hate Blue Man Groups show. It%26#39;s all good and we are all different.

This is a small show not a big event. It will work for some and not for others.

    Yes Low he does. :-%26gt;

    From the goldstar website.

Star of television%26#39;s hit show The Mentalist and reality show Phenomenon, Gerry McCambridge performs comedy, magic and mindreading live on stage to astounded audiences. Nominated ';Best Magician in Las Vegas'; and voted ';World%26#39;s Best Entertainer'; in his field, Gerry thrills audiences with incredible mentalism skills and his ability to get inside the minds of others.

Event summary prepared by the Goldstar Editorial Team.

Really? I like the TV show!

lol, at wanting money back for a free show!

    Low, what am I thinking right now? :-%26gt;

I have free tickets to see it at Hooters. I wonder of the will honor it?

Shrink, usually we%26#39;re in sink, but then LoveCo said ';Hooters'; Lmaoooooooooo

You two are hilarious. BTW I don%26#39;t think anybody can guess what a ';shrink'; is hinking. Shrinkgirl is way too ahead of us all.

Then why does she ride the little yellow bus? LOL

    Low,

    I%26#39;m doing research. :-%26gt;

    Favorite places for lunch ?

What are some of your favorite locations to get lunch on the strip?

    Favorite places for lunch ?

We always go for lunch at Mon Ami Gabi every trip, and sit out on the patio to people watch.

    Favorite places for lunch ?

We like hitting the Harley Cafe (great nacho%26#39;s) and Tobey Keith%26#39;s (great wings) at least once for lunch.

    Margaritaville at the Flamingo!

We also like Mon Ami Gabi for lunch; if the weather%26#39;s nice you can sit outside. We like the food very much, and it%26#39;s not killer expensive.

Beyond that, we usually grab lunch whenever/where ever we%26#39;re hungry; there are great places in every hotel.

We like Morel%26#39;s French Steakhouse at the Palazzo. They have a fabulous seared ahi tuna salad - a bitlike a nicoise salad. Also Mesa Grill at Ceasars is wonderful.

Ditto for Mon Ami Gabi, we love to have a long lunch with a bottle of wine and then casino hop the rest of the afternoon. Mesa Grill has always been a good lunch spot too.

    Mon Ami

    Spago

    Mesa Grill

Mesa Grill has a agreat lunch/brunch menu on the weekends...will be having lunch there this Saturday!

To go in the opposite direction, I ate at %26#39;wichcraft at MGM last trip and found it to be pretty average, and definitely not worth the price for the sandwich. Don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d go back.

As an aside, my host at Excalibur laughed and asked me what the heck ';WICHCRAFT'; was when reviewing my account!

We are inclined to more often than not just grab a sandwich somewhere. Many of the hotels have deli%26#39;s, however we like %26#39;Earl of Sandwich%26#39; in PH, and %26#39;Ocean One%26#39; in the Miracle Mile Shops.

    Restaurant in Downtown

A friend of mine told me that I need to eat dinner at a restaurant downtown that is at the end of the Freemont Street Experience which you can watch as you eat. Does anyone know what the restaurant is called?

    Restaurant in Downtown

Perhaps your friend hasn%26#39;t been to Vegas in a while and they are referring to the Center Stage Restaurant which used to be in the Plaza. This area is now a sports bar called the Dome.

    Restaurant in Downtown

I think that your friend is refering to the Center stage restaurant - Unfourtunately its now gone and has been replaced with a sports bar. Its in the Plaza hotel. We ate there a long time ago and its was pretty cool. But at least you can still go there and have a beer and watch the FSE if you want!

Another but partial view would be Binions steakhouse.

  • Le Reve compared to Mystere

Staying at the Wynn in July, and considering seeing Le Reve. We saw Mystere a few years ago and really enjoyed it- how does Le Reve compare?

    Le Reve compared to Mystere

I only thought Mystere was okay...I liked Le Reve much better, it isn%26#39;t as good as Love but I liked it just as much as O.

    Le Reve compared to Mystere

We didn%26#39;t care for Mystere that much. We liked Le Reve alot. Mystere had too many clowns and we didn%26#39;t think they were that funny. Then the baby act was ridiculous. We thought they took away from the show.

Le Reve%26#39;s theater is great because no matter where you sit, you can see perfectly. It%26#39;s a sophisticated water show with beautiful choreography.

They are 2 totally different shows. Some people like Mystere and some people don%26#39;t like LeReve. I guess it%26#39;s all a matter of taste.

Le Reve is good. You will enyou it. It%26#39;s a water ballet so it doesn%26#39;t compare to closely to Mystere where there is no water. Of course there is more dancing in Le Reve. I really enjoyed them both.

I disagree with Le Reve as a ballet. The shows are entirely different but with the same high quality artistry. Le Reve is really unique and worth seeing. We saw it before the show was redone and after. I like the added visuals.

Le Reve beautiful costumes, wonderful haunting music, great theater in the round, stunning water and acrobatic stunts. The storyline is more about elements of both good and evil. Water stage. Although it%26#39;s not a true CDS show it is more like ';O'; than Mystere.

Mystere quirky, whimsical, unsual, silly, fun costumes, great music, great strength and acrobatics, great views due to great theater design, light hearted.

    I'm cheap - I'll do a timeshare for LOVE or O tickets...

Is this currently a valid offer in LV....which hotel would I have to get to?

    I'm cheap - I'll do a timeshare for LOVE or O tickets...

I don%26#39;t know. I would do the same thing. Just check with the time share people at different places. They are eager to please if they can.

    I'm cheap - I'll do a timeshare for LOVE or O tickets...

I did that last year for a show. Was the biggest waste of time. Wasted a whole day. I advise not to do it.

Personally speaking there%26#39;s nothing that the timeshare guys could offer me that would make me give up my valuble Vegas time to spend a few hours in their company.

Perhaps Google Vegas timeshares to get some information if you%26#39;re set on doing this.

I know people who have gone, and it does take up LOTS of time -- if they decide you have any money at all. Another young couple I know went and felt like they got chewed out for going because they didn%26#39;t really have any money. I%26#39;m afraid it would take up too much time and be too intense, but if you want to know which hotel to find them--you can go to Rio or Harrahs. I%26#39;ve seen them there.

Don%26#39;t worry they will find you. PH has a gaggle of them. All the HET propreties have them, Four QUeens downtown has them.....and on and on and on.

I have never seen a CDS show offered but times are hard so who knows. I have seen George Wallace, Carrot Top, and Lance Burton.

I have to agree with Blagger.

In Harrah%26#39;s between the check-in counters and the main elevators. I also will warn you that they can be a bit judgemental if you are with a partner to whom you are not married. A few yrs back, I was with my live-in boyfriend of 5 yrs and they would not show us their crappy timeshares in exchange for a show simply because we were not legally married. (And their loss too since he had a decent income and would have likely been susceptible to their pitch.)

The mere thought of spending my precious vacation time listening to someone try to sell me something I don%26#39;t want for hours at a time gives me a headache. The thought of actually having to stop and talk to every timeshare person trying to find out what they are offering gives me a GIGANTIC headache! But I have an idea that is exactly what you are going to have to do- and none of them may be offering Love or O tickets. Do you really want to spend your vacation time this way?

Where did you find free transportation near the strip?

Where did you find find transportation near the strip that is free to the general public? Did your hotel have a shuttle to the Freemont Experience, for example? Please use the following format, for everyone%26#39;s ease of use:

    Start Location: %26lt;be concise, but descriptive%26gt;

    End Location(s): %26lt;ditto%26gt;

    Running times: %26lt;if known, e.g. morning only%26gt;

    Approx. time to destination: %26lt;minutes from start to end, once boarded%26gt;

    Frequency %26amp; Other Info: %26lt;how often does the transportation run, or any other info that will be helpful%26gt;

Please don%26#39;t include shuttle buses from the airport. This thread is about getting around on the strip once you%26#39;re there.

Where did you find free transportation near the strip?

lasvegasadvisor, has a shuttle link that gives all the info you desire

Where did you find free transportation near the strip?

Yes, but is it in the correct format??:)

There are no free shuttles from the Strip to Fremont Street.

All the information you require about free shuttles can be found here:

    lasvegasadvisor.com/…

A free tram runs between Mirage and TI and another links Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. All information about these can be found here:

    www.vegas.com/transportation/monorails.html

Some of the information is about airport/hotel shuttles but it is the most comprehensive free shuttle list there is:

    lasvegasadvisor.com/…

Theres a free shuttle that goes from the Fremont hotel DT out to Sam%26#39;s Town- From there you can catch it to the Tropicana ( ON the strip) and from there I believe there are stops further down the strip. Heres a link that may help!

    samstownlv.com/things-to-do/shuttle-service

    S;-)

Thanks everyone. Those links were just the ticket! No pun intended.

If time is no object you can take the sams town shuttle from Harrahs to sams town and then from sams town to the California Hotel Downtown. It may take a long time, but it is free.

    Cirque - The Truth!

My DH and I are making our first trip to Vegas soon and I am debating getting tickets for a Cirque show.

I am a big fan of shows and musicals etc. but my husband is a bit more skeptical, and is really having trouble getting on board with the concept of Cirque.

I am loathed to spend a lot of money on tickets if he really is going to hate it, so I%26#39;m looking for testimonials from other skeptics for opinions as to whether it is worth trying to win him over.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Cirque - The Truth!

They are good shows, well produced with world class performers. I was sceptical before I saw my first one and I enjoyed it a lot. They are just fun. I%26#39;d recommend to anyone that they try it at least once.

That being said, if the money is a concern, you need to pick your shots and you don%26#39;t want to risk wasting a night, see Jersey Boys. Every guy I know who has seen it whether they hate musicals or love em liked that show. It%26#39;s Goodfellas meets That Thing You Do and it%26#39;s terrific.

    Cirque - The Truth!

Get tickets to LOVE. You%26#39;ll have the best of both worlds--great music, great show, with Cirque%26#39;s flair.

There are those who complain that LOVE doesn%26#39;t have as much of the acrobatics as other Cirque shows, and that is probably true. However, I%26#39;ve seen ';O'; and while it was very good, there were bits where I felt a bit bored, like I was missing something. With LOVE, you won%26#39;t be bored. It%26#39;s a feast for the senses and has a great sound system to boot. You don%26#39;t even have to be a huge Beatle fan to love it. We took my adult daughters to see it in 2007, and the one who isn%26#39;t a Beatle fan loved it so much much she wanted to see it again. In fact, when we told her we%26#39;d be seeing it a second time when we go in July, she was jealous because this trip is just my husband and me.

Just get tickets that are heavily discounted in order to diminish any financial outlay in the case that your husband hates the show.

Nobody can tell you that your husband will be converted.

I agree, choose Love. You can%26#39;t be bored, because there is so much to see you can%26#39;t possible see it all. Then, while you are trying to look all over the place and see all of the action, you%26#39;ve got great music playing and panels dropping down from time to time with Silhouette%26#39;s of the Beatles ';jamming';. It is a great show.

Who says you both have to go?

Go by yourself. Whatever the cost of 1 ticket is, give it to him in chips.

Cirque is having a great summer promo:

    cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/LasVega…

Decide on the show you think you might want to see and check if tickets are available.

There are also other good sales going on right now.

If you%26#39;re not necessarily a Beatles fan, Mystere might be a better choice. It is the most affordable of all the Cirque shows, so if he doesn%26#39;t love it you aren%26#39;t out as much. Any way you slice it, Cirque is entertaining. You know him better than anyone- if he has an open mind, then you%26#39;ll have a ball.

There are videos on youtube you can watch and decide if it%26#39;s something you%26#39;ll like.

I saw LOVE and loved it but have no desire to spend $$ on another CDS show. I like acting/singing and a plot.

The promo for LOve on the Cirque site is only 25% I think. However, on smartervegas.com they have a promo for 40% off.

I%26#39;d also like to add that almost 2 yrs back, I had to drag my boyfriend to KA as he was convinced it was a ballet and would be a waste of $$. But afterwards, he could not stop telling people about how great it was. I don%26#39;t know your DH, but I am fairly confident he will not only like a Cirque show but will want to see another and another.

Remember the TR when you return and let me know what you decided and most importantly, if I was right- LOL!

I suggest Love or Mystere for a first Cirque show. O was fine but I hated Ka. So- there is no real way of knowing what someone is going to like or not like. Not every show- Cirque or otherwise- is going to please everyone. If he is really reluctant to see a Cirque show- I wouldn%26#39;t drag him to one. Just go by yourself-surely he can find something else to do in the casino for 90 minutes!

    Strip to Henderson options?

I need to get from TI on the Strip down to 1600 Boulder Highway, Henderson next Wednesday to pick up an RV.

Is a taxi my only option, if so what kind of cost would that be?

    Thanks.

    Strip to Henderson options?

16 miles away by cab. My estimated guess is around $40 to $45.

Call them and see if they will come and Pick you up.

    Strip to Henderson options?

I agree with DiceMan...I know renting an RV is not inexpensive, so I would hope they would offer a service that would pick you up at your hotel!

If they wont send a driver for you I bet they%26#39;d reimburse your cab or at least part of it.

Take the city bus. Cheap and easy.

The RV company, Moturis, offer a shuttle bus pickup (at 7am, which is a tad early when the rentals dont start till 9 and 1030!) but only from the Mandalay I believe.

Found the website with teh cab prices, looks like about £50 right enough.

City buses - great idea, but which one (or ones?)

Here is the RTC bus route website for more info. www.rtcsnv.com Remember, US busses are notoriously unreliable. (at least in Baltimore)

Wow, I couldnt even imagine taking the bus all the way from TI to 1600 Boulder which is south of Sunset.

You coulld take the 202 and 107 bus for less than $5. I bet it would take around 1h total transit. You could catch the Eastbound 202 in front of Ballys and when you get off at Boulder Hwy take the Southbound 107. Boulder Hwy and Flamingo is where Sam%26#39;s Town is so you could stop there and have breakfast or something while waiting just down the street for the RV place to open. Otherwise I would guess about $60US by taxi.

  • Any car rental codes for LAS out there?

I am most interested in Budget, Hertz and National - but I just can not believe how expensive Las Vegas rental cars are so I may have to try someone else.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

June 2 pick up at 7PM

    June 8 return at 7PM

Any car rental codes for LAS out there?

Try www.carrentalsavers.com They have codes for all the car rental companies.

Any car rental codes for LAS out there?

check out alamo. i posted a code earlier today found cheap car rental.. code is listed there.. got a great rate for june 6-12...

I know it isn%26#39;t the three you mentioned but I got a great deal through Dollar. When you put in the info for when you want it and the Airport code it will give you prices and also a button to press for specials. The prices have come down a lot in the past two weeks. My original renatl (Dodge Charger) was around $260 total two weeks ago. Now it is down to $198. I am picking it up at the airport but dropping it off at my hotel.

alamo with the corp ID code for 6 days was 122 which included all the taxes...this was for an economy car. others were just a little more..

  • Just booked MGM Skylofts! $425/night!

Just book Skylofts in early June for, get this, $425/night through AmEx Platinum. Pretty amazing deal from what I%26#39;m reading about this place. It will be our first time there. Almost booked Bellagio Penthouse Suite (we%26#39;ve stayed in their PH suites many times) for $349/nt, but Skylofts sounds like it%26#39;s a way better value -- heck just between the free internet, continental breakfast, free PPV movies, free Maybach airport transfer, and free sodas/water, it%26#39;s about equal or better than Bellagio%26#39;s rate. Not to mention a possible upgrade to a 2BR suite if available b/c we booked with AmEx Platinum.

Anyway, I%26#39;ve been reading the forums so I *think* I%26#39;ve found most of what needs to be known about Skylofts, but if anyone else has any more advice or info, would love to hear it. We will be booking a breakfast or lunch at The Mansion.

Really looking forward to the trip -- hopefully this swine fly thing will go away by then....

    Just booked MGM Skylofts! $425/night!

WOW that%26#39;s an amazing deal! I%26#39;m looking forward to hearing about your trip. I%26#39;ve been thinking about staying there.

    Just booked MGM Skylofts! $425/night!

I had the same promo offer last year at the same price. You will love it. Amazing lofts and service. Mine also included round trip from airport in their Maybach. Enjoy.

That%26#39;s an outstanding price, and an icredible value. Although when we stayed there there was no continental breakfast. But there are fresh berries in the suite at all times.

I thought I knew a fair amount about the Skylofts too, including talking to people who had been guests and asking for advice on things like ameneties, tipping, etc. but I still had a few surprises.

The one thing I wish I had known about in advance was the stationery. The reservation was in my name, and a surprise to my wife. So the business cards and all the stationery was just in my name. It didn%26#39;t occur to me to ask the concierge to have my wife%26#39;s name added. And I know she would have probably sent notes to our grandkids if both our names would have been included.

If you think of any questions, feel free to ask. Here is a link to that TR (also included Wynn) which has info you may find of use: www.lasvegastripreport.com/display_tr.php…

Ktinca, I remember reading that when you first posted it and I enjoyed rereading it now just as much.

Scott, you got a great deal. I%26#39;m not sure you%26#39;ve already seen it, but www.yelp.com has lots of reviews, too - fun to read.

If I remember right you get a breakfast at the Mansion. Make sure to take pics to share =)

    GREAT rate btw!

Low: You have the option of PAYING for breakfast at the Mansion, it%26#39;s not included. This isn%26#39;t like the free buffet offer, lol.

lol ktina.... as with most any meal at MGM!

I knew this in case the OP didn%26#39;t! I think it was YOUR TR that brought this to my attention!

That is and AWESOME Rate for a awesome Room, you Definitely scored a good deal.

You really got a good deal. You got the place for pennies on the dollar -- like chicken feed. Please post after your trip; you will be in like Heaven on earth for sure.

You will love it. I just came back from a three night stay and have already booked again for July. Well worth the money. Be prepared to be pampered.

Yellowtail at Bellagio - anyone been?

We are deciding between Yellowtail, Koi or Tao for one of our nights? anyone have any input - especially on Yellowtail since I can%26#39;t find any reviews on here and I know it opened last July.

Yellowtail at Bellagio - anyone been?

I%26#39;ll give you a bump but not much info to help you.

We had plans to head down there for appetizers one night and never made it. We stayed at Bellagio and Yellowtail was packed every night when we walked by.

Yellowtail at Bellagio - anyone been?

thanks - was really hoping to hear from someone who had eaten there...the fact that it was hopping seems to be a good sign....think we might just try it.

Try typing %26#39;Yellowtail%26#39; into the search box. There is a regular poster, jackandsally, who really enjoys high end food, and the whole dining experience. Scroll through what comes up, you should find some comments about that restaurant. If you need more info, you could probably PM her about it.

Hahaha...hey you knew I would comment on this one huh? Yes, I really liked Yellowtail. The food was great- sushi and cooked items, the service was fantastic (the sommelier was particularly helpful,) and the view of the fountains really made it special. Of course the sake and the fountians may have altered my state of mind...hahaha...but it was a really wonderful meal. I even enjoyed it more than Okada.

Jack and Sally - I think I remember you helping me out with some questions last year...I appreciate your input...

so here are a few more questions as we have multiple reservations for each night...

Thursday - rm seafood, mix or lavo

Friday - tao, koi or yellowtail

Saturday - n9ne, sw steakhouse or craftsteak

    Thanks.....

any other favorites you might have????

For your fist night the only one I have been to is Mix and it was very good. The menu at RM Seafood is interesting but whenever I walk by the place I get the feeling the atmosphere is lacking...the atmosphere and view at Mix is wonderful.

Haven%26#39;t tried Koi but I liked both Tao and Yellowtail. Really depends on whether you are set on raw sushi. If so Yellowtail has the edge. If it%26#39;s cooked Asian food you are looking for I%26#39;d give the edge to Tao.

I really like SW. The steaks were good (I%26#39;m not a steak lover though,) the carpaccio was fantastic as were the sides. The lake of dream is always a fun distraction. Our server was good and attentive but not realy friendly.

Thanks - I am leaning towards mix for thursday, yellowtail for friday and still a toss up for Saturday....

Saturday - n9ne, sw steakhouse or craftsteak

Try Prime at the Bellagio or the Country Club at Wynn.

Thanks Diceman - have eaten at Prime twice before...wanted to do something different. One of the girls in the group has her heart set on n9ne as she had a great meal there a couple of years ago. another friend of mine just got back and said SW steakhouse was amazing....

    hmmmm...what to do???

any advice on some of the other restaurants I posted?

Although I didn%26#39;t try the steaks there (just went with sides and appetizers) the service and atmsophere at Botero was great if you are looking for a new steakhouse to try. The appetizers we tried (other than the bone morrow, which I learned is just too slimy for me) were really good.

    Wizard of OZ Slot Machine

My wife asked me to look into finding out the locations of the Wizard of OZ slot machines. I checked out the other posts and came up with Bills, Flamingo, Hilton and Excalibur. Anyone know of any other locations on the strip where we might find this game? Thanks.

    Wizard of OZ Slot Machine

Luxor had 2 of them, and Fremont had 2 that I saw in March.

    Wizard of OZ Slot Machine

I thought I read somewhere that Caesars had them, but I%26#39;m not sure.

They are in MGM Mirage, but I don%26#39;t know the denomination. They are near the penny quick hits. Come in from the strip, walk straight %26amp; when you get to the spot where everything gets light %26amp; green, head to the right. I think about halfway back.

They are so popular around here that it is almost impossible to get on one of those darned things! I ablsolutely HATE those flying monkeys (scared me when I was a kid and still bother me), and that would be the only bonus I ever get :(

I am guessing that all the Harrah%26#39;s properties should have them by now even though they may not be listed yet on the Harrah%26#39;s Slot Finder web site page.

They have 4 at the Luxor. They are nickel slots, with 20 lines to bet and you can bet up to 20 per line. I sure wish that I had. On Mar. 24, Glinda the Good Witch visited me in her big pink bubble and turned the ENTIRE SCREEN into WILDS. I hit the big jackpot...20,000 credits...$1000 on a nickel slot. If I%26#39;d only bet max, it would have been $20,000!!!!! It was pretty awesome. Played Somewhere over the Rainbow and was really loud. I was screaming and clapping! It wasn%26#39;t a bonus round. Those are fun too and I%26#39;ve won several little $25-100 jackpots on the bonus.

In the Luxor, they were just past the penny slots if you walk in from the lobby by the slots with the car. They could have moved them because they were doing work and moving everything around. I think they were brand new when I was there. I never found them at the Excalibur.

just got back -- the 5th -- IP had them towards the back on the right and then all the others. Did not see them any of the other places we were. have a great time!

TI has a least a couple of them, penny or else 2 cent.

Four Queens has them near the Freemont street entrance. There are two one on the first row and one on the second row, they are back to back! Good Luck, I loved them and they loved me back! LOL

Thanks to all for the detailed responses. Not only do I have more casino%26#39;s to add to the list, but directions inside the casino to find the game. Cool.

I really do not play slots - but a game like this will pull a $20 from my dockers....just to try it.

My wife and I tried to get on them everywhere in November and they always had a line so we did not get to try it.

Thoughts on this way to bet at craps?

Firstly, I%26#39;d like to point out that I haven%26#39;t played for real in Vegas before! Thanks to the people on here, I%26#39;ve been trying to pick it up online as practice for going in June.

The safest way (if there is such a thing) seems to be to bet passline and odds, however I%26#39;ve been trying all manner of bet types and like the following.

Assuming $5 minimum, place $5 on pass, if a point is established then put $5 on the odds, and then $5 on all the other numbers (buy bets). It works out at $35 a hand and the gamble is that a 7 doesn%26#39;t come up for a few rolls or so. If a 7 doesn%26#39;t come for a few rolls, then each time it hits one of the buy bets, then I take the winnings and original bet, until either the point is established or I 7 out. This way it seems to take advantage of any streaks where a 7 isn%26#39;t rolled. I then need to quit whilst I%26#39;m ahead...famous last words.

I%26#39;m now putting myself out there to be ridiculed from the experts, but I would love someone%26#39;s opinion who has actually played the real thing!

    Thanks,

    Ally

Thoughts on this way to bet at craps?

while it sounds good, you are submitting yourself to putting out very bad bets (buying the 4 and 10) and only putting the very minimum on the best bets (the odds bets of only $5).

Using your theory, one could also assume that you put your bets down and immediately seven out, thus losing your initial $35 without any redemption whatsoever.

While it sounds like fun to put so many bets down and the ';action'; it%26#39;s not the best way to attempt to win money. I%26#39;m an avid craps player, I usually like to play both dark side and pass side, but generally stick to odds bets and buying the 6-8. That way I reduce the percentages the house has over me and still have a good time.

However, don%26#39;t let me or any others like HTR deter in what you want to bet, just make sure you are comfortable with amounts you are betting (since craps can fluctuate a lot in the amount of $ you are wagering at any one moment) and that you are having fun!

Thoughts on this way to bet at craps?

Why would you ever buy the 6 and 8 rather than place them?

I just learned how to play craps in Feb. (but I am still learning)

    What about the field bet?

stratton, sorry i meant to say place them, i don%26#39;t ever buy the 4 or 10

wmac3 - The field bet is not a great bet statistically, but not as bad as the bets in the center of the layout. It seems like it should be a great bet because you can win with so many numbers, but of course the three most common rolls (6,7,8) are not there, nor the 5 which is next in frequency.

That having been said, it is a simple one-roll bet whose payoff is easy to understand and doesn%26#39;t require the dealer%26#39;s assistance. I will usually make a few field bets, especially if I have a shooter at my table who seems to have a problem hitting 6s and 8s, or who seems to crap out a lot (or if *I%26#39;m* the shooter having that problem!)

You can learn more about all types of craps bets and their odds at wizardofodds.com or nextshooter.com.

The safest way to play and the most conservitive in holding on to your session bankroll while you wait the lucky run of the numbers.

5 place bet, come out roll, make odds bet.

5 come bet, make odds bet

5 come bet again, make odds bet.

Then you can start placing bets if your still alive.

Bet nothing else on the board, And Learn to play with the house when the table turns.

    Play no field bets.

The payoff on the Pass Line is even money, which gives the house a 1.41% advantage. Once the shooter%26#39;s point is established, you are permitted to add a secondary odds bet behind the line This is the odds bet and is one of the best bets you can make at the table.

Once your ahead dont be afraid to place the 4 and ten. These are high payoff numbers.

A little tip to remember but you might already know

    4 and 10 are pairs

    5 and 9 are pairs

    6 and 8 are pairs

To find out how many ways the 4 and 10 can be rolled

    just subtract 1 from 4.

Same with the 5 and 9, and 6 and 8.

Now go throw some number especially the ten on the end.

Almost all systems at craps sound good, but nothing can beat the house advantage. Pass line bets with odds, come bets with odds, and placing the 6 and or 8 are the best bets. Hope for a long roll without a 7. If someone does hold the dice and rolls twenty or more rolls with out a seven showing up you can win a lot of money in a short period of time. But in the long run (thousands of rolls) that seven will show up every six rolls of the dice. And when things start to go bad at a dice table it will seem like you cannot win a bet to save your life. There are countless books and articles about craps with lots of advice. And you already know the best advice...Quit when your ahead.

Others have said it already, but I%26#39;ll reiterate here: pass line %26amp; max odds after point is established. Might not sound like fun, but it gives the house only a VERY slight advantage. I like playing Casino Royale, which allows you ridiculous odds limits (something like 100x pass line bet).

Here is how it will work at the table.

    $5- pass line bet

    Roll #1

The odds bet will be dependant on the point rolled. For ease of figuring lets say you put down $10 on odds.

$53 on all the numbers across.

    Roll #2

    7 out.

That equalled about 8 minutes of fun and no cocktails for about $50. Unless you have some deep posckets you wont really have much fun at the table at this rate.

    Try this-

$5 pass line bet and nothing else. Get cocktail waitresses attention and order. Dont place any other bets until you hit your original point number. It might be boring but you have some money in play albiet not much. This is a good time to get acclimated to the table and see how it hreally works, where they place the chips, the terminology, ettiquite, etc.

Dont start putting place bets or odd or anything until you get a winner on the pass line. This way you will easily weed out the losers and save some money. You will also have a couple of cocktails in the meantime.

So for the same $50 you will have gone through 10 lousy rollers and the table should be heating up hopefully by this time if not sooner.

Once you hit a point number then start putting:

    $5 pass bet with odds.

6 and 8. Thats all you need to do, just 3 bets working all the time. It minimizes risks, has a decent payoff and keeps the cocktails flowing.

The real money will be made on your odds bets so if anything needs more attention, make it that.

Thanks for all the help again. For the first time, I definitely don%26#39;t have the cojones for putting bigger bets down, and I%26#39;ll do the pass line with odds til I get used to it, all the while having cocktails! My way seemed to be a good way to either lose money or win money depending on the streak, as with all the bases covered effectively, it seems that the most I could lose was $35 a hand, but more often than not, a few of the numbers would come up before a 7, meaning that I would break even or only lose a little before the streak came.

This said, I am a beginner so I will bow to all your expertise and

increase the odds bet and maybe put 6 and 8 down also. I%26#39;m going in June (4th time to vegas) and will do my first trip report to let you know how well, or badly...I did.

    Thanks again,

    Ally

  • Player's Cards

How important are these? Should I get one from every casino I go to? I%26#39;m not much into slots, but I will drop about 50 bucks into them before I get mad - Atlantic City.

I%26#39;ve been reading a lot around here and I%26#39;m thinking I can get free stuff if I go get it and where do I get them from in the casinos?

    Player's Cards

If you%26#39;ve got the time to sign up for them, you might as well. Many casinos in Vegas give perks for signing up, such as matchplays, coupon books, etc. I believe Planet Hollywood does $25 in free play after you earn 4 points on your card ($90 worth of play, if I recall)... don%26#39;t know if they%26#39;re still doing it, since I haven%26#39;t been there in a while. Sahara has a coupon book with matchplays. A few places give food discounts with the card (such as the $0.99 Shrimp Cocktail with player%26#39;s card if you head downtown).

There%26#39;s no downside to getting one, really, unless you%26#39;d rather wait and hope for a better ';new signup'; promotion... which is probably a waste.

Putting any amount of play on the card will at minimum get the attention of marketing, and they%26#39;ll hopefully send you some offers to see what kind of player you are. Lots of stories here about people putting $20 into the slots at Wynn or Venetian and then getting offers for two free nights for no apparent reason. Once they came back and played a bit more, the offers stopped... but hey... once is good!

    Player's Cards

pardon me for adding a question in someone else%26#39;s post but do you sign up for the player%26#39;s cards on line or when you get to the casinos?

cateyescan-either way. In person, or online.

I always sign up at the casino to make sure I%26#39;m getting whatever I should be getting. That said, most casinos only allow you to sign up when you get there; very few have online signups as far as I%26#39;m aware.

You can sign up online,www.playersclub.com for the MGM/Mirage properties card, and the Venetian/Palazzo%26#39;s club grazie on their website.

There are different incentives offered at different times for signing up in person, ie.,freeplay, etc.

I didn%26#39;t check to see if you can sign up for the HET reward card online.

You can sign up online but you still gotta be at the Casino to pick up the card, they%26#39;ll never mail it to you. It just speeds up the process by a couple of mins by signing up online. So might as well do it in person, hand them your ID and they take care of the rest.

Most casinos will only rate your play at the tables if your bet is a minimum of $25 a bet so low rollers need not apply. However, they do rate every penny you put in the slot machines. Its good to have your name in the system so you can offers in the mail. Now I wouldn%26#39;t even sit at a slot machine without my players card.

And PH will give you free slot play after 4 points which is $40.

Get them. You never know how many freebies they%26#39;ll send you later.

I gambled $100 and so did the wife in Caesars once, and they%26#39;re still sending me free room offers at HET properties.

Definitely get a Wynn card. I signed up last year and gambled a little bit and got the 2 free buffets they were offering at the time. I only gambled at Wynn for maybe an hour or so and no crazy amounts of money.

The kicker here is that I started receiving free room offers from Wynn several months ago and after ignoring them for a few months, they upped the ante to 3 free nights at Encore (during the week) and $300 in free slot play, which I just took them up on.

Now this is an extreme example but it never hurts to sign up because you never know what kind of offers you may receive down the road.

I echo all. Sign up for Player Culb (MGM?Mirage), Rewards Card Harrah%26#39;s properties, Club Grazie for V and Palzzo and Wynn%26#39;s red card.

With the exception of Planet Hollowod (has its own) you will be surprised at the offers that follow and surpised when checking out you may get meal(s) of other room charges discounted or comped in todays market.

My wife %26amp; I have MGM/Mirage Players cards and we plan to use them while playing the slots/tables in their properties.

Is it best advice to charge all meals %26amp; drinks etc to our room in the hope that some may comp%26#39;d?

Also, is it possible for us to find out what comps we are collecting as we go along or do we have to wait until check-out and hope for the best?

3 questions for trip next week, help please

Making final lists for trip next Tuesday and have 3 questions that I need help with. Will be staying at Harrah%26#39;s for 5 days and Encore 2.

    1. Have never been to Fremont St and want to go and use the Deuce on Friday eve. I know it is slow but have plenty of time. Are pick up spots marked on the Strip and where would we get off to see the light show and the Casinos.

    2. Have reservations at Casa Di Amore with limo pickup and need info about appropriate tip for driver. Tip both ways or just when dropped off?

    3. Never been to Voodoo Lounge and would like to go for view at sunset. Can you just go and sit on patio or whatever it is and enjoy a drink. Not interested in Club.

Have got lots of useful info, as usual, from this site. Thanks so much for help and looking forward to trip. DH has had some serious health prob this past year and we are in bad need of getaway.

3 questions for trip next week, help please

Just take the Deuce all the way to Fremont. The drivers generally tell you where to get off, and where to get back on to go back to the strip.

I haven%26#39;t been to Casa Di Amore but I have heard to tip about 20 bucks.

I%26#39;m sure you can just get a drink at Voodoo, but I don;t know what time it opens. You can print free passes from the Rio%26#39;s website.

    HTH!

3 questions for trip next week, help please

Hi -- Voodoo Lounge opens at 5pm, so you shouldn%26#39;t have any problem going for a sunset drink (sunset is around 7:45%26#39;ish). Have fun!

Thanks so much for answers. Have pass thru TR card to Voodoo so will go about that time to enjoy.

If you%26#39;re interested, another great spot for a sunset drink is at Mix Lounge (top floor of THEhotel). Since that property is at the end of the strip, you get an awesome view of everything. We often go up there for a pre-dinner drink when we stay at Mandalay Bay or THEhotel.

Burgers, burgers %26amp; yet more burgers

    I don%26#39;t need to read no Stink%26#39;n article....the best burger is a DOUBLE-DOUBLE at IN-N-OUT !!!!

    I am game!

While we are on the topic - where does everyone think the best burger can be had? Be it fast food or a restauant...?

The best fast food burger I%26#39;ve had in Vegas was at In n Out.

The best restaurant burgers were at Burger Bar and BLT Burger.

Oh yes...the low standards of a fast food burger.

Kilroys over on Charleston can make a good burger

Then again, I think it%26#39;s on Buffalo, just off Charleston

We ate at In and Out , Burger Bar, Fat Burger and the best in my opinion was the Original Burger at the Cheese cake factory.

Wheres In and Out burger on the strip? I am staying at MGM Grand and not had one before, as being from the UK.

    cheers

    Thanksgiving week-how busy,

    Hi there,

We are in vegas this year for the first time which also happens to be the week of thanksgiving day(nov24th-28th)we were just wondering how busy vegas will be during these few days,

    Many thanks for any help,

    Darren

    Thanksgiving week-how busy,

    Hi icf,

During the start of your time in vegas people traffic will be light, but everything will be open. For Thursday and Friday it will be busy. My observations is that all weekends are busy. If there are shows you would like to see do it during the start of your stay as you will have good seats to choose from. Weather will be pleasant but I%26#39;m not sure if it will be warm enough for the pool. Last year it was in the low 70%26#39;s and the sun wasn%26#39;t very strong. The water is heated. Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) restuarants will have some type of Thanks giving dinner. So you may like to experience this if you haven%26#39;t before.

Anything else you would like to know?

    Enjoy your stay.

    Thanksgiving week-how busy,

While it is difficult to judge from one year to the next, I was there for Thanksgiving week 2007. We arrived the Sunday before and left the Saturday after. It was relatively slow from Sunday until Thanksgiving Day morning, but then it got very busy for the remainder of our visit. It was especially busy on Friday--so much so that it was difficult to move along on the sidewalk, or to find an unoccupied slot machine anywhere. Thanksgiving fell between 11/18 and 11/24 in 2007, and we had really beautiful weather, with sunny warm days, and cool nights.

We%26#39;ve gone to Las Vegas three times during that week. As noted above it%26#39;s generally very uncrowded during the week leading up to Thanksgiving with a noticable influx of people on Wednesday and Thursday since lots of people come for the 4 day weekend. Avoid buffets on Thanksgiving Day unless you enjoy long waits as many locals choose those over cooking at home. Also I would suggest making dinner reservations in advance for the busier nights to be sure you have somewhere to eat. The weather can vary from chilly and high in the low 50%26#39;s to 60 degrees to warmer, in the low 70%26#39;s. You%26#39;ll want to bring layers as the breeze can be chilly even on a nice day, and the casinos still blast their AC.

We have been in Vegas the past 2 Thanksgiving weeks and I thought it was fairly busy the whole time. We went to the Adventuredome in 07 and it was very crowded. Wall to Wall people. We still had fun though.

Had thanksgiving dinner at the House of Blues in 08, it was good but a little pricey.

    I think you%26#39;ll enjoy it.

We found it very slow, except for the following Fri and Sat. And then, it seemed to be more shoppers and restaurants, than anything else. Gambling seemed to be pretty empty too. Nothing says ';Happy Thanksgiving'; like some sushi.

Many thanks everyone for your replys,

    Some great information there,

    Once again, thanks,

    Darren

The restaurants and buffets will be very crowded so if you have a restaurant in mind, you will need to make a reservation way ahead. The buffet lines are unreal as the locals take advantage of the reasonably priced buffets. One Thanksgiving, I ended up eating fast food because the lines were horrific.

Vegasvarmint is correct about the buffet lines. We couldn%26#39;t duplicate our at home Thanksgiving experience anyway, so we ate at Margaritaville==had drinks and turkey sandwiches. It was actually a lot of fun.

I spent about 7 years in Vegas during my Thanksgiving vacation(Wed- Sun). It was always crowded. Make your dinner reservations early and avoid the buffets- the lines will be long.

The weather will be anything from very chilly to warmish. I never was able to swim. Bring clothes that can be layered - tops with short/long sleeves, a mediumweight sweater and a lined jacket. This way you will be prepared for any kind of weather. Check a weather site just before leaving but the forecast can change while you are there.

    Hi vegasvarment,

We are staying at the excalibur, could you reccomend a good steakhouse for thanksgiving night?

Not that bothered about price range,

    Thanks,

    Darren

    oh Jeez, the Movies?!?!

i can%26#39;t believe i%26#39;m actually having to do this, but as i%26#39;m gonna be in Vegas in mid July, I need to know what the best movie theater is on the strip, is the one next to the M%26amp;M store any good? The only reason I ask, is because me and DW are complete Harry Potter geeks and the new movie will be coming out on the 15th, one of the days that we are there, so we were hoping (heck who are we kidding, we%26#39;ll be completely sh%26amp;t faced) to see the midnight showing if a movie theater on the strip does something like that. Any thoughts? thanks!

    oh Jeez, the Movies?!?!

The only time I%26#39;ve watched a movie in Vegas was in 06 when I was there a full week, and watched at South Point, so I%26#39;m no help.

But I%26#39;m guessing your condition for watching would be no different than watching ';Animal House'; high at the midnight showings years ago, Lmaooooo

    oh Jeez, the Movies?!?!

Went to see the new Star Trek film last week at the showcase cinema. It%26#39;s opposite the Monte Carlo just off the strip down a side road, very good cinema, and the film was good too!

I%26#39;m a fan of the Palms and watching films in IMAX when offered. It%26#39;s not on the strip but a nice place near the strip and easy to get to.

I sometimes catch a movie in LV. We don%26#39;t have the time to go to the movies at home unless they come from NetFlix.

Shrinkgirl, i imagine that they will have the new Harry on IMAX, as the two previous ones were shown on IMAX as well, could you give a bit more detail regarding the movie theater at the Palms? how is the seating, etc? thanks!

Whatever you would like to know. It%26#39;s in the Palms casino where I like to play Video Poker.

You walk through the small food court to the theater. It is listed on their website so you might have a look for yourself. We find the temp to always be plesant, multiple show times to chose from, often a popular film has more than one theaters in the place showing the film at staggered times, you can purchase your tickets using Fandango, The seats are comfy and recline a bit and of course they have the stand cup holders.

    The big plus is that it%26#39;s aways clean and fresh. No sticky stuff on the bottom of your shoes. :-%26gt;

We saw the new Star Trek movie in IMAX this weekend and they advertised Harry Potter and the new Transformers movies both to be available in IMAX. I%26#39;d second seeing it in IMAX at the Palms (if that%26#39;s where they have an IMAX theater).

    Rob

Aww man the movies? Couldn%26#39;t you do that any other weekend :) But I do want to see that Star Trek movie.. I will save it for when I get back.

I%26#39;ve gone to the Showcase a couple times in Vegas.

Find it can be a nice break from walking and sunshine that doesn%26#39;t involve gambling or drinking. As much as I love sunshine, gambling and drinking sometimes that%26#39;s good and it%26#39;s a nice theater. Rather do that than watch tv in the room.

yeah, usually i would like to spend my time in vegas doing all the illecit (sp?) things i can%26#39;t do at home, however DW is a huge fan of Harry Potter and if we don%26#39;t go see it opening night, i might not be able to have any happy fun times... if you catch my drift :)

Shrinkgirl, thanks for the info, i%26#39;ve never been to the Palms, but might make a night of it, since i%26#39;ve been wanting to see it firsthand.

I agree with Shrinkgirl- the Palms is a nice movie theater. You can take the shuttle bus from Bill%26#39;s to the Gold Coast and just cross the street (although the shuttle does end at midnight).

My favorite theater is the Regal Vilage Square- but you need a car to get there. It sometimes shows foreign films or indies.

  • Picking up friends at airport ?

I rented a car but our friends get in the next day so where would I go to park and go in the airport to pick them up? I have never picked anyone up there before so thought I would ask all my Vegas addict friends lol (kidding of course )

Picking up friends at airport ?

Go to the airport and park in the short term parking lot.

Picking up friends at airport ?

Goodbeer is right of course. Get their flight number and arrival time. Follow the signs for short term parking for passenger pick up. Put a quarter in the meter and use the crosswalk straight into the baggage claim area. Just look for their flight number above the baggage carousel. Meet you friends and walk them back across the cross walk to your parked car.

    Go have fun!

    :-%26gt;

Oh okay perfect, sounds easy enough hahah I am glad it takes me right into baggage pick-up. I am so excited......2 more sleeps! Thanks guys!

Don%26#39;t forget to let us know how the trip goes. Trip report please!

I promise I will try to do a good one but can%26#39;t compete with some of these excellent writers...I usually have something funny happen to me at least a few times on our trips but can%26#39;t always share them hehehe

Don%26#39;t park in a rental car parking lot, or they might think you are returning the car (and it is not nearly as convenient). Park in the short term parking lot, as already suggested.

You probably want to exit via Swenson. If you take the tunnel, expect your friends to write a horrific note about you on this Forum!

Take several quarters and follow the different colored lines in the approach road to the short term parking structure. Remember your level. When you friends land, have them call you on their cell. You can stand on the level above baggage claim and look down inside the whole area and see them. It%26#39;s kinda fun.

Another option is to do what I always do. Have you people get on the shuttle to the Rental Car location. Much easier to get in %26amp; out of.

Great ideas everyone thanks a lot!

Travelling from Canada / Duty Free question.

Greetings all. Leaving for Vegas Sunday evening, and am wondering if it%26#39;s worth while picking up a bottle from the Edmonton International Duty Free Shop, or just wait till I find a Liquor store in Vegas? For example, if I wanted to pick up a bottle of Malibu Rum, would I be better off, grabbing it passing by duty free, or waiting till Vegas? Your opinions? Thanks so much all.

Travelling from Canada / Duty Free question.

Well it would be cheaper and more convenient since you are there anyway. You will have to pack it in your checked luggage though but they will bubblewrap it for you, at least they do in Calgary.

By all means, wait until Vegas. Why bring sand to the beach?

Went a couple of weeks ago out of Calgary. There is a duty free before you go through customs where you can get your bottle. The prices are pretty good and you can just take it as carry-on. There is also a little kiosk after you go through customs that sell your basics at a good price ( I got 2 - 40oz bottles of vodka special price - $30 Canadian ). You can take the two bottles on the plane as carry-on ( I%26#39;m not sure if they have that in Edmonton or not ). I like to have one bottle in the room in Vegas and then bring the other back to Calgary as my duty free in checked luggage ( you are only allowed one bottle per person coming back into Canada ). Not sure of the duty free hours though.

To me it isn%26#39;t really the dollar savings ( after all you are going to Vegas!) but the convenience of not having to look for a liquor store while you are there. I like to sit back and have a nice cocktail in the room as I%26#39;m unpacking before I hit the casino. Also great having a bottle with mix back in the room when you are just taking a break! Have fun - going again in october.

I agree, why waste time looking for a liquor store, when you can buy it right at the airport?

A common misconception is that you are only allowed to bring back one bottle as well. you may bring back more, but the they will be subject to small duties, which they may not bother with.

Sometimes you want a drink in your room instead of blowing $100 at a table waiting for one. Do the Duty Free thing. I always do.

Personally I pick booze on the way back into Canada, not going out. A minor consideration is that most duty free shops going into the US sell 1 litre bottles (since that%26#39;s the limit going into the US), but the duty free shops going into Canada sell 1.14 litre (40 oz) bottles since that%26#39;s the limit in Ontario.

As for the duties coming back in if you%26#39;re over your limit, they can be quite substantial, at least in Ontario. The LCBO has an online calculator you can use that is based both on your cost and amount of alcohol. For example, if I bought a 1.75L bottle of 40% vodka for $15 CAD, there would be $27.75 in taxes and duties making the landed cost $42.75. Most 1.75 litre bottles in Ontario sell for $52 so it%26#39;s a bit of a savings, but maybe not worth the hassle.

I bought 2 bottles of vodka going into the US from Calgary - one for Vegas and one to bring back ( can%26#39;t remember if they were the 1 or 1.14 litre bottles ). I asked the cashier if we were allowed 2 and she said yes- went on as carry-on. Not sure if that is different in Ontario?

Here we go - I am an expert on this one...at Edmonton Int there is a small kiosk liquor store in US hold area AFTER US security - assuming you have a NONSTOP flight to Las Vegas. Buy it right there - its immediately to your right after you go through US security. Small selection thought, the basics but it works. It IS cheaper than in the US after you add the exchange and tax plus it is a time saver. You can see the Americans doing the same thing.
